Escaping Mylor Hell (At Bronze).

avatar

Good day 👋 Hyde here and I'm back with another guide that I hope would help new players in their journey through Bronze.

Recently, I've created a guide showing how strong a Mylor setup could be in bronze. It is very strong and it's a total powerhouse that can net you some wins fast. I know that I gave you guys a reason to use him, but now I'm going to be giving you guys some pointers on how to counter a Mylor team in the Bronze league ;)

What makes Mylor strong?

Mylor is a rare Earth splinter summoner that costs 3 mana to use. His summoner ability is that he provides "Thorns" to all friendly units. This means that every time you hit a unit with thorns using melee damage, you'll receive 2 damage in return because of thorns. This makes Mylor a total nightmare especially if you rely on cards like Serpentine Spy or Skeleton Assasin to deal the damage since even a chicken can kill them if they attack it LMAO. Because of this, Mylor is a pretty strong counter to melee setups since every attack that they do means 2 damage to them. Your units can die just by attacking.

People once believed that the starter cards from the water splinter are an effective countermeasure against Mylor with its magic units like Medusa and Ice Pixie since they can burst down tanks with their magic damage along with Alric. But, Mylor comps. have learned to counter it with Unicorn Mustang and Mushroom Seer who render magic damage obsolete with abilities like Void and Silence. So unless your units deal 3 or more magic damage, it won't even dent the Unicorn. Pitch in Wood Nymph and she'll be healing that unicorn up in no time.

Overall, Mylor is really effective versus teams that revolve around dealing melee damage and magic to a certain extent. This gives Mylor teams a big boost against the starter cards that new players start with. That is why Mylor is like a cheat code that can easily boost you to Silver if you grind enough. Mylor is really strong in Bronze, but is he unbeatable? No. Far from it.

Summary of Mylor Team Strengths:

  • Thorn gives him an edge against melee units.
  • Unicorn Mustang and Mushroom Seer combo greatly diminishes the damage of magic units.
  • Effective vs new players since they usually don't have access to a variety of cards.
  • Strong tank sustain with Wood Nymph.
  • Even friendly units that deal no damage can take down opposing melee units because of Thorns.

Usual Mylor Team Composition:

MYLOR(1).png

*Unicorn Mustang is sometimes interchangeable with Flesh Golem or Stone Golem. Some people would often opt to take out Centauri Mage and replace her with Failed Summoner, but nonetheless, you guys would always encounter-- 1.) A Tank, 2.) Wood Nymph, 3.) Mushroom Seer. Those are the core units of a strong Mylor team that you'll commonly encounter.

Beating Mylor and his Minions

A Mylor setup is strong in bronze, but he is not unbeatable. In fact, you can even beat him using only your start cards. Let's look at some of a Mylor setup's weaknesses:

  • Units (Aside from their tanks) often have low health like Wood Nymph, Goblin Thief, and Mushroom Seer.
  • Snipes are effective for clearing units behind Position 1 since Mylor setups usually run magic/ranged units after their tank.
  • Weak at 99 mana cap especially against teams that can outlast it like Light splinter starters.
  • EXTREMELY vulnerable to ranged units. Ranged attacks don't proc. Thorns and it has no way of reducing ranged damage like the way Mushroom Seer silences magic. They can try to counter with Centauri Mage who can return range damage, but I still see losses even with that card in the lineup.

Splinters and their Starter Cards vs Mylor Teams:

Note: All sample teams are written as "Possibly beat." Reason for this is because lineups can change and other factors can decide the outcome. Nonetheless, they are proven to be beat a Mylor team as shown in the match replays.

Fire Splinter:

Who would expect that an effective team vs Mylor would be from a splinter known for melee units at the beginning??? On the contrary, starter cards from the Fire Splinter boast some good ranged units like Fire Elemental and Spark Pixie who deals 2 ranged damage each. You can even sometimes throw Mantoid in the mix if the mana cap permits. It is usually run with Pyre so it ensures that most of their units will be attacking first. It is not a guaranteed win, but it can still possibly beat Mylor.

Death Splinter:

Death splinter is another strong challenger for Mylor due to their good selection of ranged units like Demon Jester and Dark Astronomer. They also have snipe units with Demon Jester (yet again) and Death Elemental (Magic with snipe). Demon Jester is a really effective card against Mylor teams since not only does he ignore Thorns, he can also take down essential cards like Mushroom Seer and Wood Nymph fast. The starter cards of Death splinter also provide some pretty useful debuffs such as Zintar who reduces melee damage and Undead Priest who reduces hp making enemies squishier. Undead Priest's debuff is pretty strong since your snipers can easily take down their targets fast in Round 1 alone.

Life Splinter:

Life splinter is home to tanky cards with strong buffs that'll keep them out and running. They are not often played in low mana caps, but they are a pretty common sight in 25+ mana cap matches especially in 99 mana cap. The thing that I noticed when facing Life splinter setups is that while most of their units deal melee damage, they can tank the damage from Thorns long enough for them to dish enough damage. They.Can.Outlast.You. They are tanky enough to survive your damage and they deal enough damage to take you down. They are not impossible to beat though since I've seen matches where they lose in low mana cap.

Water Splinter:

This one is pretty straightforward. Water starters along with Alric used to be hard counters for Mylor, but after discovering Mushroom Seer, it can't beat Mylor anymore especially if the tank's Unicorn Mustang. Nonetheless, I'm putting this here to show inform you guys that Water Splinter can still beat Mylor. All you need are to fulfill two conditions: 1.) The enemy doesn't have Mushroom Seer nor will run Unicorn Mustang 2.) Have enough mana cap. to load your magic attackers. Meet those two conditions and you can burst Mylor down fast. The only problem with it is that I don't see that many Mylor users without Mushroom Seer so it might be better to just use cards from other splinters.

CONCLUSION

Mylor is a popular pick for breezing through the Bronze league, but what people don't realize (Especially new players) is that there are actually plenty of ways to counter him. Starter cards can counter him and as you gain more access to the different cards in the game, you'll see that there are actually A LOT of ways to go through him. With this guide, I am hoping that you guys would finally find learn how to deal with those Mylors in Bronze (Me included hekhek). I believe that Mylor is very popular and strong in Bronze right now because not enough people realize that there are actually many ways to counter him even with just their starter cards alone.

I hope this guide helps. Don't forget to drop down your insights below especially if you also have some useful tips in countering Mylor in Bronze. Have a good day and happy grinding!😄
