Easy Victory with Stronger Cards

Greetings to all Splinterlands players and hive gaming community! Splinterlands is a game of strategy like chess. Winning chances are increased if we play the right cards for the game modifiers and position them correctly to maximize their potential. But, it is also important to have strong cards. Which is why we upgrade our cards or try to get legendary cards in our collection. Think of it like playing a game of chess with two queens against an opponent who only has one. The side with the stronger pieces has higher chances to win even against a more skilled or higher rated opponent. By no means, stronger cards don't guarantee victory but they offer more strategic options and higher chances of winning. Today, I played a game against an opponent with weaker cards and I'll show how my stronger cards helped me win the game.

Below you can see the modifier that was used in the game and you can read about it in detail.

Explosive Weaponry

All units have Blast (deals an additional 50% damage to units adjacent to the target, rounded up).

Additional damage is equivalent to main damage divided by 2, rounded up. Include a unit with Deflect in your lineup to absorb blast damage and protect your back line.

I planned to meet this modifier with card with high mana. But there were few choices so I just went with a high attack units and hope that the damage will be mitigated by my healers.

Earthquake

All nonflying and snared units take 2 physical damage at the end of each round. Snared units are considered non-flying. Since the damage given is physical, it can be reduced to 1 if the unit has the shield ability.
See Flying ability.

I didn't put flying units but I had three healers in the team to mitigate the damage.

The Teams

Let's compare the teams of my opponent and mine.

RoleMy TeamOpponent TeamComment
SummonerDragonlord MancerAureliaLegendary summoner gives me a clear advantage because he has more skills.
Unit 1Doomshield WardenDire BeastMy tank has higher attack and better defense
Unit 2Gravebrand WarlockDread TafarianMy unit attacks while the opponent's card was to absorb Blast damage
Unit 3Mindless ThrallSilverleaf MagePutting a Taunt card in the middle in a game with Blast modifier was poor strategy
Unit 4Arachne WeaverKicking RocMy unit attacks and has healing.
Unit 5Fenmoor Wood TrollVirid VenomancerMy Fenmoor Wood Troll has more skills than the opponent's
Unit 6Magnificent MolluskFenmoor Wood TrollMy last card has high attack of six

My team has more skills, has higher attacks and have three healers. In this game with Blast and Earthquake, healing is important to keep the units alive. My opponent used mostly Foundation cards and even though they are good, they are no match to Modern cards. I have the clear advantage in units and it led to an easy win.

Conclusion

A player can have stronger cards but this does not guarantee a win in Splinterlands. Despite the advantages of upgraded cards, strategy remains an important factor. Like in chess, a skilled player can often overcome a stronger pieces by accurately predicting an opponent's splinter choice, countering likely lineups, taking advantage of modifiers and positioning cards effectively.

Think of Splinterlands like chess with better pieces available. Having stronger pieces helps, but you still need to make the right moves. Upgraded cards increase your ceiling and flexibility, while strategy determines whether you actually convert those advantages into wins.
