Hello Splinterlands Community!

Welcome to another Share your Battle Weekly Challenge featuring the nobel vampire Soul Strangler from the death element that have the ability to attack at a spiritual level.

untitled.gif

Before the chaos gate opened, the towered city of Darkholde was peaceful and quiet. Situated in the cold, Blackworth mountain range, it was presided over by a long-standing noble family and governed by Baron Kutziq Neculai. If the citizens knew the truth about their governor, then maybe they wouldn’t have been so loyal, but the Baron’s tastes were sated with great restraint and he truly did care for them, taking only what he must and never more than he had to. For Kutziq was a vampire, a race as ancient as the stones they’d used to build the city. A man who loved his people in many ways, including their unique flavour.

The soul strangler is a creature of nobility, of good stock and incredible wealth. They live in lavish opulence, wearing the finest attire and moving in the most sophisticated of circles, often engaging with the high born from other cities and enjoying intimate gatherings that last for days.

However, when this vampire chooses to hunt, they take on whole new guise, almost shifting their form to become more accomplished for the chase. Pointed ears extend refining their hearing and their eyes change colour affording the ability to see in the dark – their preferred time to hunt. Long fangs grow from their mouth and vicious talons sprout from their fingers. But what you can’t see in either form is the power they hold within their mind, an ability to attack at a spiritual level when they eventually find their adversary, squeezing the very life from them; a ranged attack that if not avoided, will have devastating consequences.

🧛‍♂️ The Stats

The Stats.png

  • Soul Strangler is a rare monster card from the Death Element which specialized in dealing good range damage.

  • Looking at the stats, Soul Strangler offer a good range damage which is 2 at the base level. It can be noted that in each league, it has a constant of 3 speed and an increasing damage per league. A ★2 in bronze league could provide a 2 range damage, ★4 in silver could provide a 3, ★6 in goldd could provide a 4 damage and a ★8 in Diamond and Champion league could provide a 4 damage with a chance to poison the target.

  • One good thing about Soul Strangler is the damage it can provide at a low mana cost. However the downside of this monster is having a low health which is prone to opportunity attack as well as snipe and sneak attack.

Combo Cards

In terms of Summoners, any summoner in the death element is compatible with Soul Strangler however battling against the same element, there are two summoners that have great impact to Soul Strangler.

Card
Disadvantage
Mimosa Nightshade
Mimosa Nightshade with the reduction to range damage will greatly impact Soul Strangler as this is the main attributes of Soul Strangler. It may lead to permanently disabling Soul Strangler especially if this is targetting a frontline enemy with shield.
Contessa L'ament
Contessa L'ament do have the same effect that Mimosa Nightshade which will greatly affect Soul Strangler.

In terms of monsters from the death element, there is no direct combo with Soul Strangler. As long as Soul Strangler is protected by those tank in Death, especially Dark Ha'on then it will be no problem.

Favorable Ruleset

Favorable ruleset to pair with this Soul Strangler:

Ruleset
Benefits
Combat-rule_back-to-basics Small.pngBack to Basic
A range and a magic damage is usually the choice in this ruleset and given that Soul Strangler only cost 3 mana but deals a great damage, then it is the best choice.

Also, no worries on any sneak, opportunity or snipe attack that can hit Soul Strangler.
Combat-rule_close-range Small.pngClose Range
Close Range ruleset make the Soul Strangler attack even in the frontline position. Soul Strangler attack might be the winning shot.
Combat-rule_equalizer Small.pngEqualizer
Soul Strangler is usually defeated by a one hit attack because of low health. With the equalizer ruleset, Soul Strangler can fully utilize its attack power.
Combat-rule_fog-of-war Small.pngFog of War
With the fog of war ruleset, Soul Strangler is free from snipe and sneak attack from the backrow. However, there is still a opportunity attack that can easily defeat Soul Strangler.
Combat-rule_unprotected Small.pngUnprotected
Without any armor in play in the battlefield, the devastating attack from Soul Strangler is a real deal as it will do a direct health damage. Just pray it don't miss.
There are other ruleset such as little league, odd ones out and target practice that are also okay and compatible with Soul Strangler.

🧛 The Battle

Rules of Combat

Modifications: Back to Basics, Rise of the Commons
Mana Cap: 20
Playable Splinters: Earth and Death

This is a brawl matchup on Fray 9 Silver which is only Chaos Legion Edition.

Line Up

Position
Card
Mana Cost
Strategic Planning
Summoner
Thaddius Brood
4Thaddius Brood is quite a great summoner which reduce 1 health and magic of an enemy. Since the allowed element is only earth and death, my first choice is using death because it will contradict the Obsidian buffs as well as since the mana cap is only 20 and with the ruleset back to basic, more monsters are great to use in death especially the Soul Strangler.
Front Row
Curse Windeku
6Cursed Windeku with a high health, a decent melee attack and speed is a good tank in the death element. If the matchup is not limited to Chaos Legion, Pelacor Bandit is my better choice because of it's additional speed, a mana cost of 5 but with the same health of Windeku.
Back Row 1
Carrion Shade
1Carrion Shade is a buffer in-case Cursed Windeku has been defeated. It will act as the temporary shield.
Back Row 2
Life Sapper
3Life Sapper is also a good death monster. I consider it as the counterpart of Soul Strangler in magic as they both consume a 3 mana which is great in low mana matchup. Positioned as the third line up as magic can still attack in the front position.
Back Row 3
Whistling Damon
3Whistling Damon is a gladiator that have a good speed and range attack at a low mana cost.
Back Row 4
Soul Strangler
3Soul Strangler is in the last position as it can provide a great range damage but has the least mana in the offensive squad. With the back to basic ruleset, Soul Strangler last position is the safest position in order for this monsters to attack freely.

Round 1

R1.png

Looking at the line-up of each team, the Earth's lineup composed of Palidon Rakk, Mycelic Morphoid, Agent of Chaos, Regal Peryton and Xenith Archer. With the current ruleset, the backrow do have only two attackers comparing to the Death's lineup which have three with a highest damage from Soul Strangler. Palidon Rakk have more health comparing to Cursed Windeku in the frontline.

Moreover the magic boost of Obsidian has been negated by Thaddius Brood and provides -1 to health of all opponent's monsters.

The Battle Has Begun!

In the first round, a combined attack from Cursed Windeku, Life Sapper, Whistling Damon and Soul Strangler will heavily damage Palidon Rakk while Palidon Rakk, Regal Peryton and Zenith Archer combined attack will redunce Windeku's health to 40%.

Round 2

R2.png

At the start of Round 2, both frontline are heavily wounded. A single attack from Life Sapper could easily defeat Palidon Rakk, a successive attack from Soul Strangler and Whistling Damon will defeat Morphoid and Agent of Chaos.

Cursed Windeku was able to hit Regal Peryton at the end of the round.

Round 3

R3.png

An attack from Regal Peryton defeated Windeku not knowing that Life Sapper is waiting for its turn to defeat Regal Peryton. A finishing blow has been made by Soul Strangler defeating the remaining unit, the Zenith Archer.

Points towards the guild! VICTORY!

🧛 Final Thoughts

Soul Strangler despite of its low health is very useful in death splinter. The first main thing it does is providing a great damage for cost of 3 mana. No wonder this monster is a rare card.

Soul Strangler is also great in low mana matchup and best to use in little league and back to basic. It is indeed one of my favorite card in the death element in the Chaos Legion.

What are your thoughts of this monster?

Thank you for reading! See you in the next post.
