Splinterlands Narratives: Land Phase 1.5 Examined

Splinterlands team shared an article for players to get prepared for Land Phase 1.5 as there are some "soul-bound" or, we can all "land-bound" features that require immediate action before the upgrades are done.

Lands might be the strongest narrative of Splinterlands since the latest bull market in which SPS, the governance token, airdrop was initiated. The players received 365 days of SPS airdrop and the game has advanced since then. Now we all have SPS, DEC, and Voucher tokens as currencies to be used for several reasons.

As the name of the game refers, Lands are crucial sides to initiating a long-lasting gaming experience with a great story behind it. Also, the utility of existing tokens and the new tokens play an important role to adopt a sustainable mechanism.

Let's have a look at the case.

Soul-bound // Land-bound Sides

What attracted my attention when I read the article is that selling or transferring the lands after your purchase might not be a great idea if you are already upgrading it for a while.

Power cores will be available for purchase at the price of 5,000 DEC or DEC-B and are non-transferable.

When you purchase Power Cores, you will not be able to trade them.

Since research isn't transferrable and transferring grain between different accounts incurs a 12.5% transportation fee

Each research token will be soul-bound and the landowners should be careful about it. In terms of grain, there is no such limitation but paying that amount of fee may not be the preference of many people in the early phases.

I find the soul-bound system very useful for all types of Play2Earn games as this model has always been criticized for not being a sustainable system for the long term. Yet, soul-bound asset ownership is a great way to reward the efforts and invested capital. I find these integrations very effective.

Utility of Dark Energy Crystals & Time Crystals

Staking DEC will be a fact if you want to have a worksite on the land. The number of tokens to be staked will be determined by the number of workers and the level of them accordingly. This is a good way to attribute a use case for DEC token. Even though this process does not burn the tokens, it temporarily decreases the liquid DEC in the wallets.

DEC is also used to buy Power Cores and Time Crystals.

The tokens used for Power Cores will be burned (5K in each trade). This is a nice addition.

Also, we have time crystals to accelerate the process! You can see Time Crystals as 100 DEC's new form to make things faster.

Time crystals may be purchased for 100 DEC or DEC-B (which is burned) each.

All in all, each player will burn 5K with Power Core purchase and lots of 100 DEC via Time Crystals in time 🔥

SPS Rewarding System

The players will get some allocation for mining SPS from the reward pool.

If you own an occupied land with Shard Mine (a building), then you will double your earnings.

Remember the reward pool in the tokenomics:

As far as what I've read, there is no burn mechanism or staking requirement on the side of lands for SPS token. We can see the case like there will be more need for Cards, DEC but the necessity of SPS will stay in the second position.

Also, once mining SPS becomes active, there will be more SPS in circulation as the miners' reward pool distributes the allocations in a regular basis.

A player may choose to convert SPS into DEC to re-invest in the system if the earnings via mining get profitable. However, SPS is already important for Ranked Battles and Voucher drops. So, not giving a critical role for SPS in Lands 1.5 may not hurt the token.

I'm happy to see that the existing tokens and cards will be given additional value/utility. We need to remember the fact that Lands 2.0 and higher updates will be based on community feedback and the sides that devs spotted to be strengthened. So far, everything is well planned.

Thanks a lot for summarizing these things for us. I believe land 1.5 will be a nice addition to the game. I hope it will bring a new dynamic and more activity to splinterlands. Nice post!

Thanks for stopping by.

I'm super bullish on Lands. I also wonder the effects of it on SPS price.
