Yes they do, the advantages of being a referrer are:

Earn 5% of every tip claimed by the audience you bring in.
Access to paid/bountied articles first.
Free featured article placements.

Many of the people there are from Steem, but I think some of them don't know Steem and it may be some more exposure for Steem if everyone crossposts to it.
