Analyzing a 18 mana interesting battle .

Hi, today I'm about to write a post featuring a 18 mana interesting battle from analyzing a top battle from champion league in modern format.

The battle that I'm about to analyze was between Iconicghost and Mister.Arianthus where Mister.Arianthus won the battle by luck.

A little info about the battle:

With Scarred Llama Mage as summoner, Iconicghost used three monsters which are: Fungus Flinger, Pelacor Mercenary (Gold Foil), Mycelic Morphoid.

And with the same Scarred Llama Mage as summoner, Mister.Arianthus also used three monsters which are: Fungus Flinger, Pelacor Mercenary, Chaos Agent (Gold Foil).

Battlefield Review - Battle Link

Target PracticeExplosive WeaponryOdd Ones Out
All ranged and magic attack monsters have the snipe abilityAll monsters have the blast abilityOnly monsters with odd mana costs may be used in battles.

Monsters with snipe ability targets enemy monsters with ranged, magic, or no attack that are not in the first position which means ranged, magic or no attack monsters in the second position becomes the primary target of opponent monsters and both teams chose their team in a way that there's no ranged, magic or no attack monsters in the second position, both of them actually chose the same ranged attacker at the first position and the same melee attacker (in different foil eg. regular/gold) in the second position.

Explosive Weaponry gives blast ability to everyone and monsters with blast ability do additional damage to monsters adjacent to the target monster. Iconicghost (the losing team) actually chose a better leveled monster than the winning team and still the result was not on his side. And they only could choose odd mana cost monsters for the odd ones out ruleset.

All monsters in the battle got +2 health and last ability from their summoners buff as both of them chose the same summoners. Both Fungus Flinger applied blind ability to their opponent monsters and all enemy melee & ranged attacks have an increased chance of missing their target for this blind ability. Then the summoners from both team cleansed the blind debuffs from the friendly monster in the first position and will do that each round.

The Battle

The whole first round was all about these buffing and debuffing. The battle normally starts at the first round, right? But we saw difference in this battle as this battle started in round 21 when the special fatigue attack started happening.

As far as I understood by analyzing them, the first monsters from both team can't attack as they're ranged attackers and ranged attackers don't attack from the first position unless there's something special going on. I guess both of them used this monster in the first position just because after it dies, their chosen second monster, Pelacor Mercenary gets +1 to all stats when the first monster dies martyr for having martyr ability.

The second monsters from both team can't attack from their position cause they're melee attacker who can attack only from the first position unless they have special powers and they didn't have special powers. The third monster from one team didn't have any attacking power and the third monster from the other team is also a melee attacker without any special attacking power so there was no one who can attack and that's why the battle started from round 21 after fatigues dipped its nose.

And fatigue killed one health from every monsters for this first time. Pelacor Mercenaries healed themself up with the lost health using heal ability. Then fatigue decided to damage two health of every monsters in the next round and the Pelacor Mercenaries healed themself up again.

image.png

Now when fatigue decided to damage three health of each monsters, both team lost two monsters each (the fist one and the last one) and both of them were left with their Pelacor Mercenaries and both monsters got +1 to all their stats for the martyr ability of Fungus Flinger. Now that both team had the only monster live so both the monsters gained increased stats from the last stand ability and now both of them are stronger but have the same stats for being in the same level.

The mercenary from Iconicghost healed himself up with three health and then damaged the armor of the other mercenary. Then the mercenary from Mister.Arianthus did the same and both of them used their retaliate abilities and which damaged three health of each of them and now both of them has same stats again.

Fatigue decided to charge again and this time damaged four health of both monsters and damaged five health of both monsters again next when the mercenary of Iconicghost somehow got less health than the other mercenary.

As both monsters had the same speed, they were taking turn in attacking first each round and the mercenary of Mister.Arianthus was next this round when the other mercenary had only one health so the mercenary in charge took this opportunity and healed himself up first then attacked the other mercenary.

So, yeah Pelacor Mercenary of Mister.Arianthus did the last attack and went for victory and the strategy went great.

I'll analyze another battle later.
