My First Card Draws in the Ranked Rewards Shop

Splinterlands recently changed its Ranked Rewards system from the 'Loot Chests' venture to the 'Rewards Shop' undertaking. Players will now receive a new soulbound token called GLINT for every ranked battle win and use it to buy items in the new Reward Shop. This ranked play reward shop contains Card Draws, Merits (min. 200), Energy Shop, Legendary Potions Shop, Alchemy Potions Shop and Limited Edition Titles. The Card Draws vary from Initiate, Adept, Veteran, Elite and Master draws depending on the percent chances of the card rarities you can get.

In this post, I will share the first card draws I made in this new ranked rewards season and express my first impressions on the changes. My goal is for players to have a glimpse of what’s in store for them in the card draws and hopefully, excite players on the new ranked rewards system.

First Veteran Draws

As an old player (of roughly 4 years), I am not excited on the Initiate and Adept card draws knowing that it will only give me common cards. As such, I first spent the GLINTs I made from burning my SoulBound cards in Veteran Draw. Here is what I got:

In this draw, I am lucky enough to have an epic card - Iidri Fyre. I always use this at Silver level because of its Taunt and Redemption ability. It will attract attacks from the opponents and reduce the HP of the opponents by one when it dies. I also got 2 rares but this is pretty common because all card draws has 20% rare chances which would equate to 2 out of 10 draws. I would have been happy if they are summoners.

Not so Pro Tip: If you want more chances to have SouldBound summoners, always draw 10 cards. Guaranteed 2 rares - one might be a summoner. :-)

First Master Draws

Now here's the exciting part - Master Draw. If drawing in tens will give me 2 guaranteed rares, it should give me a guaranteed 0.32 legendary right? It doesn't make sense I know. But I could at least hope. Here is what I really got:

I GOT 2 LEGENDARY CARDS! Amazing right? I am so happy to get another Drybone Raider. I can now level it up to 2 and have the Shatter Ability. I always use Drybone Raider in All Range rulesets because it is the only one I can use to have Melee damage in front. I also got Ferexian Hero with Weapons Training Ability. This is good to use with Iidri Fyre in order for her to have melee attack.

First Impressions and Reactions

My First Impression with the new rank rewards update is it seems to be a 'nerf' compared to Loot Chests. At first I thought that loot chests would give me more cards than card draws that gives only 1 card per draw. I was obviously mistaken. Since the card draw ensure that we get a card rather than potions and merits, all I have to worry about is the rarity of card I would get. This gives me more control on leveling up my deck because I can choose what card draw I can open.

The problem here is, I need more control on the rarity. I need more summoners. I do hope that in the upcoming adjustments, players would have a card draw that guarantees a card rarity (especially legendary). The GLINT token seems to be expensive for me as a low level player so I do wish it will be cheaper.

Ending on a positive note, this new rewards update awaken the player in me. The game shifted in a more player-oriented manner which is what it really needs. More players means more fun. Splinterlands can make this more exciting and fun by introducing more competitive cards that would make players reach for it. Making them play more.
