Return the Damage in Fog of War

Hello Jabeelievers!

Fog of War has been one of the most common rulesets in ranked and brawl matches. That is why, there are lots of strategies out there that can be thought of regarding this 'almost' back-to-the-basics ruleset. Before we discuss my take on Fog of War, let us first review what kind of ruleset this is.

Fog of War Ruleset

In Fog of War, all units lose their Snipe, Sneak and Opportunity abilities. This means that all melee, ranged and magic units are required to attack the first monster on the other side. Only the Scattershot ability can be able to attack other monsters as it targets them randomly.

Short Historical Fact about FOW: You might wonder why other sources say only Sneak and Snipe are lost during Fog of War (I am looking at your Splintercards). Well, it used to be like that. It happened that Opportunity became so prevalent in battles that the Splinterlands team decided that it will be included to be lost in the fog ;-)

Return the Damage

In Fog of War ruleset, the Tank (first monster) of team will always get damaged first. That's why most players opt to use a sustainable team. High HP Tank in the first post followed by healers, resurrectors and cleansers. Others utilize the Scattershot with some blasters (units with Blast ability).

In my take, I employed the use of Magic Reflect and Return Fire abilities to return the damage received by my units. Since this is a low mana match, I use Ilthain for the Return Fire and Pelacor Conjurer for the Magic Reflect.

It also important to note here that an Amplify monster is best to use here. So for this match, I used a Dax Paragon to increase the reflected damage.

The Actual Battle

In this battle, my opponent used Quix the Devious as the summoner with an entourage of magic and ranged monsters. One thing to note here is that, in Fog of War, players use more magic and ranged monsters because of the fact that melee wont have any means of attacking elsewhere. I used Ilthain with Pelacor Conjurer enabling the latter to also return ranged damage instead of just magic.
