How will Death be in modern format

We all know that soon will be separated into 2 game modes, on the one hand the Modern format and on the other, the Wild, at first glance does not seem to be something big but if you analyze it, you will realize that this will change the game completely, today I will do an analysis of Splinter Death for the Modern format, so I leave you with my Post.

These two formats consist of a division of the cards that can be used in each one, leaving them as follows:
Modern: Untamed + Dice + Chaos Legion
Wild: All Cards.
(Promo cards from the Modern format editions can also be used in this one).

So to analyze this, I'm going to focus on those three U+D+CL editions.

First of all, The Summoner.

Jaeb1.png

Thaddius is a born anti-magic, that can pigeonhole him quite a bit but his second debuff makes him just as dangerous against any deck because it lowers 1 life point to each card and although it may not seem like much, it is not at all. His first synergy is clearly given with his edition, but let's see all the cards that can be played with this summoner in the Modern format:

Death + Neutral Chaos Legion

With that amount of cards there is already a great possibility of combinations, but as the cards level up and gain more skills the possibilities become infinite, the element in general is quite strong but there are certainly cards that will shine much more than others in the Meta, and it is because they are very high in level compared to the rest:

Fast Lightning:

Cursed Windeku:

By having Thorns at level 1 is already a very good card from the lowest rank, serves very well as a tank and also has good damage and good speed, with it shines much the life debuff of Thaddius, for Gold rank acquires Heal, being now even more dangerous because it has a lot of life, and for Diamond is where comes the beastly, because it learns Slow, and later I will explain why it becomes a beastly card for Death.

Lira The Dark:

Lira.png

The speed of this card is impressive from the first moment, and from gold it starts to have 7 points of speed thanks to its new ability, if you add the Slow of the Windeku you will have a lightning in your second line, but that does not end here ....

Supply Runner:

Supply.png

Supply Runner is another card that from Silver increases the speed to the allies, then Lira would have 8 points of speed + the Slow of Windeku, it would be surprising if any Melee or Ranged attack manages to hit you like this, the weakness of this combination is clearly the magic, but Thaddius decreases the magic attack which levels a lot this combination, Another negative point is that it works from gold rank, and as positive points, you can continue combining it with cards like Silent Sha-vi and his Creeple, Scavo Hireling that also has Slow, Venari Spellsmith with Amplify for the Thorns of Windeku and the Insidious Warlock that puts Blind to the enemy and there it is sure that no one will touch you.

The Anti-Magic:

Dark Ha'on:

Haon.png

Again in Gold/Diamond you can counte magic with a lot of power, Thaddius to start with has a lower magic attack, and Dark Ha'on has Void + Scavenger + Magic Reflect.

Death Elemental:

His Silence ability will make the Dark Ha'on practically untouchable by magic, at the same time it will return part of the damage to the enemy, and that's where we add a new great support.

Venari Spellsmith

This partner will make the Ha'on do more damage with the Magic Reflect while the Elemental makes it take less damage, destroying a full magic team very fast, also if the mom allows you can combine this set with Lira for more speed or Magi Necrosi with its Stun.

  • Bone Golem, Legionnaire Alvar and Djinn Muriat for lower ranks works better than Dark Ha'on.

Mana Top:

When there is a lot of mana available you can simply beat anything using Thaddius in Modern, facing a Flame+Kron deck you just tank hard (Chain Golem for example) and knock out the Kron before the Last Stand upgrade is done or quickly knock out the enemy team so that your team arrives in one piece to face the Kron and you in front with a Djinn Muirat that will take only 1 damage, and apply poison, against a Yodin for example, Lira and Cornealus will make a lot of difference, although you have to be careful with the new Grum Flameblade. For games with poison Harklaw works well, Dark Ha'on is one of the cards that will shine with Earthquake, just to mention some rulesets, And if the ruleset allows Ranged to attack in first position, I think there is no better card in the entire game than Cornealus, even without that ruleset he gets a lot of use out of death.

Low Mana:

When mana is low, ironically I think the options become even greater, Corpse Fiend learns Silence,
Shadow Snitch with Reach+Aflicction+Dodge, Chaos Agent, Silent Sha-vi, Riftwing in Earthquake or poison is brilliant, Giant Scorpion is a tremendous tank for these battles, Horny Toad with poison, the combinations are so many that if I start to detail them one by one the post would last forever.

I think Death is going to be one of the strongest elements in this format, especially in Gold/Diamond, while for Bronze/Silver I see it as equally competitive, although it clearly has less power, you can still take advantage of it.

What cards do I think are necessary for this deck?

recomenda.png

Having the whole set at maximum is clearly the goal to achieve, but to begin with I think that these are the most ''general'' cards of the set, the ones that have the most utility in an estimate of all Mana ranges and Rulesets, clearly at the maximum point of the league in which you are playing, clearly the way of playing of each one influences a lot here, I did not mention for example a Magic deck with Thaddius, but tremendous combinations can be put together like that, for example, as I said at the beginning The possibilities are many and you just have to analyze them.

Thanks for reading this far, see you soon!

This is incredibly useful to players like myself that are still sorting out strategies for each splinter. I also appreciate the differences you've highlighted between what we can expect to face in Modern vs Wild.

I'm looking forward to having fewer cards to keep track of while I'm learning, so here's to hoping Modern turns out to be a very popular and successful format!
