"BURN Baby Burn" My Opinions on the Chaos Legion FIRE Cards Pre-General Sale

Peakd Hive Thumbnails (14).png

Alright guys, it's time for a Fiery one; let's talk about the Chaos Legion Fire Splinter!

Let start today off with a talk about my opinions, thus far, on playing with the CL Cards, how I feel about them in both a Modern and Wild context as well as some, small, opinions on the lore and art; Today's is the first Splinter on the list: Fire! The new Fire meta is different from the old one, it seems deceptively similar, but the amount of power it brings to the table gives it a lot of versatility despite seeming the same.

Consider these tiny little analysis pieces on these CL cards and how I think they'll do in each meta.

"BURN Baby Burn"

LEGENDARIES

IFRIT RISING | Chaos Legion | Legendary

Burn Daddy | No Homo | DBZ:Super Villain Confirmed | He did NOT skip Leg Day

Ifrit Rising, honestly, kind of sucks with the summoners that Fire has; None of them really have great, or even good synergy with Ifrit Rising; But that's okay, Ifrit Rising is superior to everything in everyway, (self-described). In all seriousness though, Ifrit Rising is an ABSOLUTELY DEADLY addition to Fire Magic.
  • Pair this absolutely insane tactical nuke with Delwyn Dragonscale, you won't be sorry. Watch him nuke people for 9 Damage at level 1; 12 at Level 2. Imagine him with Blast.
  • Speaking of Blast Rulesets, play him in those, play him in Armored, play him... really anywhere.
  • Ifrit Rising has very little synergy with his own Splinter; but that's okay, he's superior to everything in everyway.
  • He's a situational card to use: Your opponent sees no Water and no Earth and STUPIDLY thinks he's safe: Foolish MORTAL. Delwyn plays Exodia the Forbidden One! You're BANISHED TO THE SHADOW REALM!

Oh, wait, wrong game. Sorry. You're still banished to the Shadow Realm though.

untitled.gif

Ifrit Rising is Ripped, which is kind of weird for a Magic Card; Why does he need those muscles if he's just straight up blasting people into oblivion? Is this muscle magic?

untitled.gif

Seriously though, he's got some really cool art, with awesome glow across his body that makes him straight menacing. Give him 3 Melee guys; Let him punch things.

This one needs some red dividers, so Pro Tip: Ifrit Rising recommends bench pressing 2 Tons at least 300 times every day FOR ALL ETERNITY; that's his secret for maintaining such a sleak physique, you can join his program now FOR ALL ETERNITY for only 9 easy payments of FURIOUS FIERY MAGIC DAMAGE TO THE FACE and your INFERNAL SOULLLL. Ahem. Sorry.

ProTipDivider.png

SCORCH FIEND | Chaos Legion | Legendary

Ifrit Rising's Pet | The Scorchiest Boy | Destroys his Collar | WARNING: Keep away from Ice Cream

He's a 0 Mana card, with built in Chicken Stats at Level 1, what's not to like? The scorchiest boy, has anybody ever considered that Scorch Fiend just wants a hug, and is traumatized by all of the senseless destruction and murder that goes in his wake? No? Well think about that next time. Don't hug him though, you'll die.
  • Scorch Fiend is best with Tarsa and Daria who make him more lethal; but Scorch Fiend, being a 0 mana, is a generalist card that can be used in nearly any Fire composition.
  • I like to play Scorch Fiend up front, in front of my slow Living Lava or Forgotten One so they can get an extra attack on the enemy before taking damage. If I'm using Serpentine Spy, I place him in front of Spy.
  • He's especially good in Armored, Equalizer Melee Only Super Sneak and Melee Attacks from Anywhere, and serves as a throwaway defense in Opportunity. Avoid Earthquakes and Poison

He's a scary thing; but the more I look at him, the more I stand by my consideration of him as a pet; he gives off the vibe of somebody's familiar/pet, and I bet he's pretty nice to have at the foot of the bed when you go to sleep; you know, assuming you have fireproof bed sheets.

untitled.gif

Pro Tip: Feed your Scorch Fiend treats after every successful kill, tell him he's the Scorchiest Boy and he's so scary and fierce. Never let your enemies see this side of him.

EPICS

DJINN INFERNI | Chaos Legion | Epic

You'll need an INFERNary when he done with you | Hobbies: Smooth Jazz, Incinerating Djinn Muirat

image.png

Fire got a lot of absolutely killer magic cards, and don't tell Ifrit Rising that anybody might be superior to him, but I think Djinn Inferni takes that cake for an absolutely INSANE magic card for Fire.
  • Unlike Ifrit Rising, Djinn Inferni straight up wrecks in all sorts of compositions, and really benefits from Tarsa's HP and Delwyn's Magic bonus. Kron? Dead. Kraken? Dead. Uriel? Dead.
  • I use him literally any chance I get, and to great effect. Anytime there's a high mana battle, it's reasonable to expect a 10+ Mana monster, and it's also reasonable to expce that Djinn is going to straight up MURDER that poor monster.
  • Pairs really nicely with Efreet Elder in the back, to protect him from Sneak and clean house if he survives, and with Void Dragon or Naga Fire Wizard up front to just SOAK up some damage if the Tank goes down.
  • Great in Blast Rulesets, as well as No Melee, Equalizer and anything above about 50 Mana

Really excellent Art here, he's such a cool color combination, and his body is super interesting, it definitely follows a theme with the other Chaos Legion fire monsters, but it's a very unique take on the Fire Humanoid that was nailed Multiple times in this set alone

Pro Tip: Okay I'll do an actual pro tip this time: Djinn Inferni is a great Position 5, where he is securely pocketed behind a card protecting it from Sneak and a card protecting it from Snipe and Opportunity. Use him in a high mana Equalizer and watch your opponent's team fall apart under his nukes, which rival Ifrit Rising's damage, only it is condensed into turn by turn damage.

ProTipDivider.png

TUSK THE WIDE | Chaos Legion | Epic

The Big TEDDY BEAR | One Chunky Boi | WARNING: Reacts violently to Magic | Do not Wake

Tusk the Wide is such a good card; @Letsjam would go so far to say its one of the best Level 1 Fire cards in the newest sets, I might have to agree with him. Tusk the Wide completely changes Fire's counters in a single card and gives Fire MASSIVE counter play and tankability even at mid-low mana.
  • Pairing Tusk the Wide with anything other than Tarsa almost seems like a mistake. He needs more Health and Melee and she gives it. I'm not sure I'd ever use him with any other summoner, except Kitty but we all know Kitty is my top pick for literally everything.
  • Let him hold down the fort, throw a Tenyii and a Fineas Rage behind him and call it a day. What? Too much melee? Well that's what Djinn Inferni and Efreet Elder are for!
  • He's such a solid anchor point for a team, and his mana cost to health ratio is the best in the game aside from Baakjira. Use him in low and mid mana.
  • He shines best in Broken Arrows, Reverse Speed, and Fog of War where you are forced to fight his meaty goodness before getting to many of his allies. I do NOT recommend him in Equalizer unless you're using things with Serpentine Spy and Djinn Inferni with ridiculous damage, and even then, I don't think that's a good idea.

He looks so cheerful and inviting; this is the type of character you go and have a keg of beer with. Well, you have a glass or two, he has a keg... or two. I'm getting Hagrid vibes from him, and that pleases me greatly.

Pro Tip It doesn't matter that he's low on damage; Seriously not everything in this game is about damage trust me and use him; you won't be disappointed by the Tedster

RARES

WAIT WAIT WAIT. I FORGOT SOMEONE.

FORGOTTEN ONE | Chaos Legion | Epic

I seriously forgot this one | He was gunna be Djinn Apprentice | I was like hm, something's wrong.

I can't believe I forgot my absolute favorite Fire Epic; Oh wait, it's in his name. Forgotten One is such a solid card, made even better by his Level 1 Immunity which has been desperately needed in Fire since, well, forever. I don't know why he skipped leg day, but it doesn't matter, have you seen the size of his sword? Something something about shoe size being an indicator of something. Ahem, anyways:
  • Tarsa's best friend, a great choice for Qid Yuff, Byzantine Kitty, and even Pyre Sadly he grows out of Qid Yuff when he levels and gains Piercing. That's okay though Qid, at least somebody needed you for a while.
  • This guy changes everything for Fire, as he is POWERFUL and an excellent core card that REALLY makes Fire a threat in Poison
  • When you can afford him, and you're not expecting magic, he's ALWAYS a pick over Tusk the Wide, sorry Teddy.
  • This man skipped leg day, but he hits hard in Blast, Lost Magic, Poison and Reverse Speed rulesets most.

He's cool; erm, I mean hot, look at that fiery wispy smoke coming off of his absolutely awesome headpiece, the way his mouth opens; This is a card that is about to open a can of whoopass on you, just uh, don't look at his legs.

untitled.gif

Pro Tip: Don't skip leg day; and yes, I am doing exactly what you think I'm doing.

OKAY NOW RARES

DJINN APPRENTICE | Chaos Legion | Rare

Fire Daddy Jr. | No Homo | Is every Magic user Buff now? | Fight Traditional RPG Roles!

Djinn Apprentice is a muscular card, just like Inferni, man what are they feeding their mages, what do their mages DO? It's DEFINITELY not reading books. This is muscle magic for sure. Djinn Apprentice is kind of underwhelming early on, he's still strong, having similar presence to Magi of Chaos and really helping Fire's magic lineup, but he's not a CRUCIAL card in my opinion; His Deathblow ability makes him great when paired with Inferni for absolutely SHUTTING down Llama though.
  • Pairs excellently with Delwyn but is a solid magic pick for any comp, allowing for more damage diversification. (Stop spamming all Melee and all Magic guys)
  • He's not a card you're gunna see super often, but he will be present, throwing magic at your Living Lava and throwing your whole team composition apart as they eat through Living Lava in a round.
  • Being fairly slow, he's great in Reverse Speed rounds, and is a very solid pick for No Melee and for when you're facing somebody who abuses Shield and Protect.

That torso is nicely done; It's smooth, the shadows and highlights are really on point, and honestly, it's one of the better examples of just straight BOD that is in this game. Seriously, props to this artist; A lot of work went into that body.

How come some of the Djinn wear clothes, and others do not, though?

untitled.gif

Pro Tip: a Fire Djinn Apprentice implies there are OTHER elemental Djinn Apprentices; what are the chances that EVERY Djinn besides those 6 are Fire, and those 6 just happen to be the 5 who AREN'T fire, and the biggest baddest Fire Djinn himself? I'm onto you guys, lets see some Djinn Scouts and Djinn Healers from other elements!

ProTipDivider.png

MOLTEN ASH GOLEM | Chaos Legion | Rare

Soru guyd I think I hvr smthin in my eye | i xant ser | whst us goinf on?! | MY EUESSSSS!

Honestly; My least used Fire Rare, and possibly my least favorite Fire Chaos Legion card, besides uh... well. One. I think he ramps up nicely as he levels, and Weaken and Demoralize with 3 Range is NOTHING to sneeze at. But at my levels; gosh he sucks.
  • You take this guy, and you use this guy with *Yodin or Selenia Sky. If you don't have Yodin, well, you can level him up to like Level 6 and use him sort of, but like, you don't have Yodin, what are you doing using ranged cards in Fire?
  • He's a really solid tank to throw on the back of comps, and he has the added bonus of still being able to attack in close range; That being said, I think I've used him once in Position 1, and regretted it.
  • Yodin's existence means that any solid Ranged cards HAVE to be horribly underwhelming in Fire.
  • I use him in Earthquake and Poison in the back, to protect my Forgotten One / Almo Cambio from Sneak attacks.

He feels like a reject Forgotten One; They're definitely related but Forgotten One got ALL of the good looks, abilities, and notoriety.. At the cost of being forgotten at every turn. What were we talking about again? Right; This guy.

untitled.gif

Pro Tip Look I may be hating on him, but that's cuz I'm working with Level 1-3. Go get a Level 5 or a Level 7, I think you'll sing a different tune. (Let me know in the comments if he still sucks up there too, haha)

ProTipDivider.png

SCAVO FIREBOLT | Chaos Legion | Rare

Not as good as Scavo Hireling | Still a Scavo so superior to everything else | Scavo Scavo.

Okay, but actually: A ranged card that *doesn't* suck without Yodin. He's actually a pretty solid card; maybe not as solid as Spark Pixies, but Spark Pixies is a one hit wonder. and OH? Hey? Who gets Knockout to complement Spark Pixies stun? This guy. They're like Scooby Doo and Shaggy, a match made in heaven.
  • Pairs excellently with Yodin or Selenia Sky, rain fire bolts down Scavo, get that blast or extra damage. Watch him hit like a truck with a reliable stunner helping him.
  • He's actually still pretty solid even without Yodin, this is largely due to his ranged stats, which stay relevant for non-Yodin comps as well, this is able to be done by giving him virtually no abilities, but that's okay, he deserves it.
  • Use him in Close Ranged, Lost Magic, No Abilities especially, but honestly, he's a decent pick regardless that can be worked into a lot of comps off of his stats and merits. But he really shines best in Lost Magic/No Abilities

Anything Scavo is amazing, look at that sociopath. He's going to burn everything to the ground and laugh about it. Look at his singed hair? He doesn't care if he's caught in the aftermath, it's all just BURRNNNN baby burn!

untitled.gif

Pro-Tip Yodin makes Ranged cards have to be weak, or else Yodin will make them too strong because Blast and +1 Range and +1 Health is Not balanced in that spreadsheet thing and literally every instance of a card that works with it has been nerfed or mana increased. So don't expect many powerful Ranged Fire cards. Sorry, I had to work in another moment of Blast is NOT equivalent to other abilities in terms of value into something whenever I talk about Yodin. My regular readers know this and accept it; deal with it.

ProTipDivider.png

TENYII STRIKER | Chaos Legion | Rare

Bad Lip Syncing: You killed my family, now you shall perish | Prince Zuko | Prince of Tennis?

HE GOT NERFED. He's STILL one of my most used Fire Cards. He. Got. Nerfed. And he's STILL one of my most used Fire cards. Tenyii Striker slaps.
  • You take this guy, and you just put him in your comp. It doesn't matter where, make him a low mana tank, put him in the back, throw him in a magic comp, whatever it doesn't matter. He's best with Tarsa but really, does it matter if you're any better if you're already the Best
  • Seriously, I am literally saying just put him in your comp and increase your win rate by like 20%
  • Play him in Reverse Speed, Blast, Melee Only, Lost Magic, whatever
  • I'm serious about that play him as a low mana tank: Seriously, just throw a few 1 manas up front and put him in, let him get off a sneak or two and then watch him eat through whatever your opponent THINKS will stop him.

One of the more elegant and ornate designs of the bunch, I am ALLLLLL for more Tenyii clan cards, these are by far my favorite humanoid cards in the game, lets get some Elemental Samruai up in here, up in here.

untitled.gif

Pro Tip Buy Tenyii Striker; Buy more Tenyii Striker; Buy MORE Tenyii Striker; Okay, you have no money? BUY MORE TENYII STRIKER.

ProTipDivider.png

TARSA | Chaos Legion | Rare Summoner

She's a bully | She's a red-head | She's a psychotic red-head | I like her!

Tarsa made some waves; She initially had +1 Speed and +1 Melee, as if to just COMPLETELY shit on Pyre and Malric. They changed that to +1 Melee and +1 Health, now she just COMPLETELY shits on Malric. Sorry Malric. You had your time, looks like it's to Land for you...
  • Despite clearly having Magical firehands and a vast mastery over fire magic, Tarsa's favorite monsters are things that punch other things really hard. If it punches, she likes it and she uses it.
  • Some favorites for Tarsa: Kobold Miner, Serpentine Spy, Tenyii Striker, Forgotten One, Elven Cutthroat
  • She doesn't rule Melee Rulesets, thanks to Mylor, but if your opponent doesn't have a Mylor or a very solid Kelya team, she's gunna wreck them. Ironically, because of Chaos Legions wide array of cards, Fire Splinter is no longer as melee specialized, and is actually more of a generalist Splinter: It doesn't directly counter any of the other teams easily, rock paper scissors style, except maybe Life, but it CAN counter them with the right lineups.

I love her. She literally looks like a farmhand Southern Belle type chick who just snapped and went, you know what, fuck it, burn it all. Let's just BURNNNN baby burn. That's coming up a lot today, but you know what, deal with it, this is the Fire section.

untitled.gif

Pro-Tip Tarsa is gunna be a pretty stable Summoner to have: She is two buffs, one being a general buff and one being specialized: In my opinion, she is the Fire Summoner I would max first as a new entry into the game; Pyre a close second. Also given Fire's new generalist approach, it is MUCH more usable than it was previously, where Fire was basically Melee, or die, but ooh, I don't like armor. I don't like magic. I can't really handle a lot of damage. Ouchies.

New Fire is more like: Hit me with magic I don't care I'm gunna hit you harder. Armor? Well I'm BEEFY too. Damage? What damage? your damage dealers are already dead >:O

ProTipDivider.png

COMMONS

LAVA SPIDER | Chaos Legion | Common

Because Yodin needed another Sniper | This is not a festive time for jokes

Lava Spider: You know she originally had 2 Ranged at Level 1? Seriously. With Yodin around, they were like let's give Yodin TWO Fire Beetle Snipers in Bronze. Who made that decision? I wanna know. You're banned from making Fire Cards >:O - se's not a bad card; he can be used with anybody, she has a lot of health, decent speed, and snipes, but pairs best with **Yodin and Selenia**. She's actually one of my favorite Fire Snipers: Snipe Poison is a GNARLY combo, but of course that's Level 10. - He's a very niche card until he gets +1 Range, after which point his mana ratio for health and damage is worth it on a lot of low mana compositions. - There are times when this card absolutely rocks: **Blast, Close Ranged, Unprotected, Low Mana** - And there are times when this card sucks: **Fog of War, Armored, High Mana**

The art for this card is a little hard on the eyes: Lava Spider does a good job of blending into her vibrant, yellow orange web, and the layering makes it a bit difficult to decipher, but it's an absolutely awesome looking spider, with nearly a skull-like looking set of lava runes on her body.

Pro-Tip It's Spider QUEEN not King; Lava Spider is a girl fight me.

untitled.gif

ProTipDivider.png

ANTOID PLATOON | Chaos Legion | Common

Ant Miners but Not | The Roughest and Toughest | Ant Miners but Many | Squad Goals

!

Some of you know me as Ant Miners in the discord, because I have 100 Ant Miners despite not playing at that level. You can imagine my pleasure (and disappointment) to find that Antoid Platoon is just a stronger Ant Miners, with its abilities reverses, and basically just multiple Ant Miners formed a gang. Bittersweet. It's everything I wanted, and yet, also somehow makes my army of Ant Miners feel hollow. Well, I guess I need Antoid Platoons too. Maybe next we'll see Ant Commander. CommANTer.

  • An absolutely solid card, pairs great with Tarsa, and works fairly well with Pyre as well He eats Yodin blasts for breakfast: Tasty.
  • Antoid is just gunna be around a lot; This is your low mana tank, you either have Cerberus, or you have this guy: That's it.
  • Antoid is a solid call for Little League, Melee Only, Lost Magic and really anything Low Mana

Antoids are my least favorite Art, I think; I still love them, but something about the composition is very crowded, and it's a bit of a weird perspective. They get a little 'messy'

That's okay though I still love my ant squad. Squad up!

untitled.gif

Pro Tip Ant Gang Ant Gang Ant Gang Ant Gang

ProTipDivider.png

SCAVO CHEMIST | Chaos Legion | Common

Aggroed's phD in Chemistry is showing | The most Dapper Scavo | Scavo Scavo.

Fire struggled in Poison rulesets initially, and they brough out Forgotten One with Immunity. That wasn't enough though, time for a new 2 mana non-attacker with Cleanse! Believe it or not, he originally had Rust, which was yet another Yodin Nightmare Fuel. (If whoever did that also did Lava Spider I stand by my statement: You're BANNED from Fire card balancing). I actually really love this card though.
  • His ability spread later one, Headwinds and Slow, actually make him one of the better anti-Yodin cards for Fire, a nice turn around from being the Rust that he originally was. Although, his Rust would've made Fire a great counter to Kelya. Ah well.
  • Cleanse is amazing; it makes Fire not fall as easily to Poison, Death, and Affliction as it used to. That's an indirect buff to Cerberus as well.
  • He's such a low mana cost, his 4 health for 2 mana is actually a really solid tank, similar to Kelp Initiate in Water.
  • Best in Armored Up and Poison Rulesets. You basically wanna increase his tankability or let him use his Cleanse.

The most dapper looking Scavo, he's dressed to impress and he's into science and stuff.

untitled.gif

Pro-Tip Be brave with Scavo Chemist; He's a 2 Mana tank, even if he doesn't look it, you'll be surprised at what you can get away with here. Kelp Initiate works for lower league Water as a tank.

ProTipDivider.png

RADIATED BRUTE | Chaos Legion | Common

UH. | This card makes me uncomfortable | But look, it's pretty solid. | UH.

Radiated Brute is a solid card; She basically defeats the purpose of Magma Troll, who is now pretty much restricted to either higher leagues, where his Affliction makes him a different playstyle, or solely in Little League. Sucks for you Magma Troll, but you've always kind of sucked.

  • Another perfect complement to Tarsa, Radiated Brute pairs nicely with Pyre as well, after getting Enrage, and can be paired with many others, including Drake of Arnak for a more off-tank role.
  • You'll see this monster a lot, Finneas Rage, in my opinion, is a more solid Reach Attacker, but many are going to be using this, far cheaper, and still quite solid attacker.
  • Radiated Brute absolutely rules, in lower leagues, in Reverse Speed and Enrage and as she levels, becomes a great choice in Armored and Poison/Earthquake matches where the poison/earthquake will activate enrage

I lied about Antoid: This is my least favorite art. I can tell that this cardwas made by somebody who could've blown it out of the park, but definitely didn't because it's a common, and spent more time (lovingly) on other cards. I can forgive that. But agh, this might be my least favorite card out of all the cards that I've seen visually. It's ironic too, because I think this is the same artist who's art I've praised on virtually every card they've made in CL thus far. Good on you artist <3 I'm sorry I hate this one.

untitled.gif

Pro Tip This card is definitely dealing with Covid, lol. Whatever Supply Runner is supplying, Radiated Brute is definitely buying. Stay away from these two, don't do drugs kids.

Nice post :) I got into splinterlands less then a week ago and I really like Tarsa and Tenyii. I could really use some fire cards like Tusk or level 2-3 Tarsa. Do you think it's better to wait after the General Sale begins?

Always entertaining to read your posts! She hates me and I never pull her from packs but a guildie gave me a level 2 Tarsa, and of course now she's my favorite. I also love the Fungus Fiend which I did pull and Ifrit Rising is my first CL legendary so I kinda have a soft spot for the buff demon guy.
