Spineback Turtle

I love Spineback Turtle once he has Thorns, he is a little League monster, not quite up to par with Cerberus, but for Alpha/Beta Water, he's a monster of a card and I'm proud to own a Level 4 personally! Which of course, I will be sure to use in this battle challenge >:D

First, some info on Spineback Turtle:

THEMESpineback Turtle
EditionALPHA/BETA
RarityCOMMON
SplinterWATER
Attack TypeMelee
Spineback Turtles live around the edges of the Dark Water, in the inner seas of ΛZMΛRÉ. They can breathe air, but the incredibly harsh climate of the Water Splinter makes the recesses of the deep more comfortable. They are generally gentle creatures, but when roused to battle, they are shockingly difficult to destroy.

Spineback Turtle, like the rest of the Alpha/Beta Commons, are very simple, decent stats, with 1 or 2 abilities. They are stat reliant, and have fairly decent stats for their mana cost: At 4 Mana, Spineback Turtle has 1 Melee, 1 Speed, 2 Armor, and 6 Health, making it a decent tank for the Water Splinter.

Level 4 Spineback Turtle really comes alive, gaining Thorns which reflects 2 damage back on attackers, making him a much more offensively oriented tank.

At Level 5, he gains +1 Melee, and at Level 9 he gains +1 Melee again, gaining a large portion of health and armor throughout his level ups

His final stats at Level 10 are 3 Melee, 2 Speed, 5 Armor, 7 Health, and Thorns.

He costs about $4 per BCX in his Beta variant

**LEVEL COSTS**
Level 4 costs about $48, this is where he gains **Thorns**
Level 5 costs $100, this is where he gains **+1 Melee**
At Level 9, which costs about $1220, he gains another **+1 Melee**
Max Level costs $2020 (based on 1 BCX prices)

*Keep in mind that higher BCX Cards come with discounts, this is the math for purchasing 1 BCX Cards, which you should NOT do if you're planning to level.*

Spineback Turtle has a lot of options for it, but here are some of my favorite Water Summoners to pair him with:

Alric does not really benefit Spineback, but Spineback hugely benefits Water Magic with a huge health and armor pool that makes him one of the best low mana general tanks for Water in the game.

Kelya is an amazing option as well, giving Spineback Turtle even more Armor and +1 Speed, which helps him hit more accurately and possibly dodge a few slower opponents, though unlikely. Spineback is not known for dodging!

Dragons have some other, versatile options:

Look, as long as you give me a tank, I'm going to put Kitty here. Kitty is never a bad option for a tank or off-tank, and the speed and true strike especially benefit such a slow monster as Spineback.

Daria is also a good option for amping up his offensive presence, changing him from a mostly defensive brawler to an offensive brawler, as he'll have 3-4 Melee for 4 Mana at Levels 4+ and 9+.

Position 1 or Position 6

Look, he's a Tank, he does tanky things, he has lots of health and armor, put him up front.
If you expect a Sneak team or Melee Attacks from Anywhere or Super Sneak, put him in the back maybe to punish sneak.

  1. Armored Up is sort of a double edged sword, you gain more defense, but it also hurts Spineback Turtles damage. This is not recommended at all though if a common Magic splinter is available (Water in Wild, Earth in Modern)
  2. Evens allows the use of Spineback Turtle and eliminates the use of a lot of other odd mana tanks.
  3. Reverse Speed is good for Spineback Turtle, who is a fairly slow, bulky attacker who suddenly becomes very agile and able to dodge attacks.
  4. Little League is perfect for Spineback Turtle, where he and Kelp Initiate are some of the best tanks available!

  1. Evens = No Spineback Turtle!
  2. No Abilities basically makes Spineback Turtle a decent tank, but eliminates his thorn ability, which is a lot of his value..
  3. Poison: Spineback Turtle's health is threatened and you can't capitalize on his armor as much here

Close Range, Lost Magic, 34 Mana, AL SPLINTERS

Of course I'm busting out the water comp here: This is no contest, even if their cards were equally leveled, I definitely would take the battle here, having the advantage in speed, damage, and being very close in health points.

Axe Master shreds through the opposition, and Spineback Turtle holds his own against the onslaught to a key. My damage is balanced, but not easily manipulated: Most damage is front-facing, whereas my opponent has a flurry of attacking types, with Snipe, Opportunity, Front Facing damage, a non-attacker, and some sneak defense.

Unfortunately this lack of specialization allows my team to redirect most of the damage to Axe Master and Crustacean King, allowing my Spineback to shred with thorns against its enemies.
