Deeplurker

Deeplurker might actually be my favorite common out of the entire new Chaos Legion set: He's a little weird looking, but man is he powerful. You don't want this ugly mofo on the opposing side cuz he's gunna rip you a new one.

First, some info on Deeplurker:

THEMEDeeplurker
EditionCHAOS LEGION
RarityCOMMON
SplinterWATER
Attack TypeMelee
Terrifying to behold, Deeplurkers are a poisonous fish that dwell at the bottom of the ocean and prey on the weak. However, they are known to travel to the surface in times of dire need. Many believe that they are sensitive to the balance of elemental water magic and, when that balance is in danger, the Deeplurkers rise to attack or defend it.

Spineback Turtle, like the rest of the Alpha/Beta Commons, are very simple, decent stats, with 1 or 2 abilities. They are stat reliant, and have fairly decent stats for their mana cost: At 4 Mana, Spineback Turtle has 1 Melee, 1 Speed, 2 Armor, and 6 Health, making it a decent tank for the Water Splinter.

Level 4 is the sweet spot as usual: +1 Melee right here.

At level 6 he gains Poison and at Level 8 he gains +1 Melee

His final stats at Level 10 are 5 Melee, 4 Speed, 7 Health, and Opportunity, Poison, AND Demoralize

He costs about $0.29 per BCX for a Normal foil and $3.92 per BCX for a Gold Foil

**LEVEL COSTS**
Level 4 costs about $8.70, this is where he gains **+1 Melee**
Level 6 costs $29, this is where he gains **Poison**
At Level 8, which costs about $64, he gains another **+1 Melee**
Max Level costs $116 (based on 1 BCX prices)

*Keep in mind that higher BCX Cards come with discounts, this is the math for purchasing 1 BCX Cards, which you should NOT do if you're planning to level.*

Deeplurker likes his armor, and as such:

Lir Deepswimmer is a solid choice for Deeplurker, as it gives him even more evasion,+2 Armor, and anti-range in Return Fire, making him a very lethal card. This is probably my favorite combination with Deeplurker, but on a budget...

Kelya is an amazing option as well, giving a chance for evasion as well in +1 Speed, and +1 Armor, for 3 Mana less than Lir... This makes her a solid choice in Low and Mid Mana, where she'll be able to slot in more monsters than Lir and potentially one up him because of that.

Dragons have some other, versatile options:

The Kitty favoritism never ends: True Strike and +2 Speed are the winners here for Deeplurker, turning him into a hyper accurate, dodgy nightmare of a card. Add on heal when he finally comes up to position 1 and you're fighting a self sustaining chain saw of doom. Have fun.

Daria is also a good option for amping up his offensive presence, making him a hyper offensive Opportunity attacker, bonus points for pairing him with Dragon Jumper.

Position 2 - 6

Honestly, this card is great anywhere where it can get off its absolutely monstrous Opportunity attacks, and it's tanky enough to handle its own as an off-tank, you can place him anywhere, except maybe Position 1.

  1. Armored Up is both good and bad, you gain more defense, but it also hurts his ability to deal damage. This is a bad one to utilize if you're going up against Magic.
  2. Evens allows the use of Deeplurker and eliminates the use of a lot of other odd mana tanks.
  3. Reverse Speed is good for level 1 Deeplurker, but as he gains speed and levels, this isn't as good a ruleset.
  4. Fog of War: Deeplurker and other Opportunity attackers can still attack the backline in fog of war, and are even more powerful because there's no damage coming from Sneak attackers.

  1. Odds = That's gunna stop a Deeplurker in its tracks.
  2. No Abilities removes Deeplurker's Opportunity, and makes him a poor, offensive off-tank. Still an option, but oftentimes you'll have better options.
  3. Poison: I did it here with a lot of support, but generally, Deeplurker isn't good for poison, as opportunity attacks the lowest health targets (who are going to die anyways)
  4. Equalizer makes Deeplurker (most of the time) just a standard frontline attacker.
  5. Opportunity / Melee Attacks from Anywhere / Super Sneak all make Deeplurker a bit less powerful, as his ability is not as strong in these situations.

Close Range, Lost Magic, 34 Mana, AL SPLINTERS

Of course I'm busting out the water comp here: This is no contest, even if their cards were equally leveled, I definitely would take the battle here, having the advantage in speed, damage, and being very close in health points.

Axe Master shreds through the opposition, and Spineback Turtle holds his own against the onslaught to a key. My damage is balanced, but not easily manipulated: Most damage is front-facing, whereas my opponent has a flurry of attacking types, with Snipe, Opportunity, Front Facing damage, a non-attacker, and some sneak defense.

Unfortunately this lack of specialization allows my team to redirect most of the damage to Axe Master and Crustacean King, allowing my Spineback to shred with thorns against its enemies.
