Shadow Snitch

Shadow Snitch is a really cool card with amazing art and a really interesting premise, although, my initial opinion of him is that he's too much like Magma Troll, but without any of the team synergy that Magma Troll has, which, isn't that much to begin with.

Can Shadow Snitch redeem himself in my eyes? Let's find out.

First, some info on Shadow Snitch:

THEMEShadow Snitch
EditionCHAOS LEGION
RarityCOMMON

Attack TypeMelee
Shadow Snitches are created by the conjurers of the Chaos Legion. Weaving Death magic, they breathe life into beings made completely of darkness. The purpose of the Shadow Snitches is to be deployed into lands prior to the Chaos Legion's invasion. Moving from shadow to shadow, they are listeners and watchers, feeding information back to the Chaos Legion.

But once the invasion is complete, the Shadow Snitches still serve a purpose. They can locate and follow high-value targets, reporting back on movements to Chaos Legion leadership. If needed, Shadow Snitches can also capture prisoners and bring them back for interrogation.

Shadow Snitch has very poor stats to begin with, at 1 Melee, 1 Speed, 5 Health, and Reach, but he slowly builds up some respectable stats as he reaches Level 10...

At Level 4, which is the beginning of Silver League, he gains +1 Melee, this is where, in my opinion, he becomes usable, but still not very powerful.

Level 6, which is the bottom of Gold League, he gains Affliction which prevents Healing if triggered, making him a solid card from this point on.

At Level 8 he gains +1 Melee, making him a more lethal reach attacker.

His final stats at Level 10 are 3 Melee, 4 Speed,7 Health, and Reach, Affliction, and Evasion.

He costs about $0.04 per BCX in his Normal Foil, and about $1.11 as a Gold Foil

**LEVEL COSTS**
Level 4 costs about $1.20, this is where he gains **+1 Melee** GF costs about $2
Level 6 costs $4.00, this is where he gains **Affliction** a GF costs about $9
At Level 8, which costs about $8.80, he gains another **+1 Melee** costs $20
Max Level costs $24 (based on 1 BCX prices) and GF costs about $38

*Keep in mind that higher BCX Cards come with discounts, this is the math for purchasing 1 BCX Cards, which you should NOT do if you're planning to level.*

Shadow Snitch doesn't specifically synergize with any Death Summoner, so it has a lot of options for it, but here are some of my favorite Death Summoners to pair him with:

Thaddius Brood does not really benefit Shadow Snitch, but instead weakens Magic, and lowers the health of enemies, which makes it easier for Shadow Snitch's low damage to well, do something.

Zintar is a great option for Shadow Snitch, especially in Melee Only, where it will nerf the opposing team along with a Disintegrator, allowing Shadow Snitch to uh, level the playing field.

Dragons have some other, versatile options:

Shadow Snitch benefits from Kitty's Speed, True Strike, and Healing, and allows it to become a more effective off-tank; Generally speaking, Kitty will always be a choice here for any card that needs to tank up front.

Daria is also a good option for amping up his offensive presence, changing him into a Silver League Shadow Snitch (at Bronze) and a Gold League Shadow Snitch (at Silver), as he'll have 3-4 Melee for 4 Mana at Levels 4+ and 9+.

Positions.png

He's a Reach Attacker, if you're not putting him in Position 1 or Position 2, he's not attacking, and unfortunately, Shadow Snitch doesn't have the health pool to be a good backline defender.

He's either meant to be an offensive presence, dealing damage from Position 2, maximizing your Melee Damage, and inflicting Affliction to prevent Healing

Or he's meant as a secondary tank, with a smaller health pool that can also conveniently attack from Position 2.

  1. Armored Up is sort of a double edged sword, you gain more defense, but it also hurts Shadow Snitches damage. This is not recommended at all though if a common Magic splinter is available (Water in Wild, Earth in Modern)
  2. Evens allows the use of Shadow Snitch and eliminates the use of a lot of other odd mana tanks.
  3. Reverse Speed is good for him, as he has very low Speed until much higher levels.
  4. Little League is perfect for him, as he is a 4 Mana reach attacker and is a stronger option than most other 4 Mana Reach Attackers
  5. Melee Only is arguably his best ruleset, where he is the only low mana Reach Attacker in Death, besides Horny Toad. In High Mana though, Gorlodon is a better option.

  1. Odds = Shadow Snitch is on holiday, call back later.
  2. No Abilities leave Shadow Snitch as a poor frontline tank, so... maybe don't use him.
  3. Poison and Earthquake: Poor Shadow Snitch gets smashed by Poison and Earthquake, especially without a reliable Cleanse in Death, and an expensive one in Dragon.
  4. No Melee eliminates the use of Shadow Snitch

Snitches Get Stitches

40 Mana, Lost Magic, ALL SPLINTERS

Lost Magic is one of the few times I think Shadow Snitch will work, outside of Melee Only and Little League, so I made sure to throw him in and uh, cover my bases with a Demoralize, Shield, and Range Debuff. This battle was still a little close for comfort, and I would've even been more comfortable with a Haunted Spider in his place: That's right, I would've rather used 5 Range and 1 Melee instead.

But did I change my Mind on him?

... Not really, he's still an absolutely niche pick that's pretty much only usable in Little League and in Melee Only. Furthermore, he's flat-out NOT usable except in very specific situations in Bronze, and only becomes somewhat usable at Level 4, where he gains some Melee.
