Splinterlands: Great Day of Gold Chests and My Take on Riverboat Captain

avatar

Today Splinterlands treated me right! I rarely say that because most of the time my luck plain sucks... SPS was great with one chest yielding 42 and another 3.5 from the others. I pulled two gold cards, another Fungus Flinger (which helped level up my existing copies) and gold foil Firecaller. Summoner wise it was excellent beause I pulled three Octavia Shadowmelds getting me ever so close to level 4 and five copies of Pembrook Nymph which is new to my collection. And finally some more copies of Fungus Flinger, Terraceous Grunt, and Venari Marksrat to add to my existing copies. I have reviewed most of these before but I haven't covered one I pulled recently and is exciting: Riverboat Captain.

When I first pulled this card I saw the blue water team and the blast. The first thing I thought of was something akin to Ruler of the Seas. Unfortunately he doesn't provide swiftness or silence at higher levels.... But he does redeem himself with some other abilities. He starts at level one with blast, two magic attack, four health and one speed. About as slow as they come but the blast is nice. However since reflection shield has come around the blast really has been mitigated. At level two we get a little more speed up to two. Once you level him up to four he picks up affliction giving his attack the possibility to prevent the target from healing. It's a very handy ability for which I frequently use the Captains Ghost. Once we hit level 6 his attack increases to three magic, now we're talking about a more serious threat! And finally at level ten he gets fury so he does double damage to those taunt cards.

Overall a great card once he's leveled up, which mine isn't sitting at a lowly level 2! Unfortunately since reflection shield has come around his blast is really less of a threat especially since he doesn't have scattershot like the Chaos Dragon. He can be a real threat though when combined with Alric, Valnamor or Delwyn Dragonscale increasing his magic attack. Then throw in some nice cards with him like Djinn Oshannus and Ruler of the Seas and you got a team that is a real menace.

I'm still waiting to get some more copies to level mine up. At level 2 he does me no good whatsoever it gold/diamond where I prefer to play. Like I've mentioned my ultimate goal is to level up my soul bound rewards cards enough to become less reliant on rentals. It takes a lot of patience I'm finding out!

In the mean time I'm stacking up that SPS and staking it so that I'll be ready when it replaces card power this year. I have been very lucky on my pulls as of late and I hope it continues but it's always just random luck of the draw. Thanks for taking time to read my post, I hope it provided some value for you and I'll continue to cover some more interesting soul bound cards as I pull them in!
