Splinterlands: The day has come, I need way more SPS!

The day finally has come, the day I officially don't have enough SPS to earn decent gold rewards anymore. Over the last six months I have been saving and staking my SPS knowing that the day that staked SPS would replace card power and now it's here. The only problem is I only have 2500 SPS staked leaving me with 1.04 boost modifier in gold.

It doesn't help that my rating is good enough to move into diamond in the modern league. So I played a session like I normally would and instead of earning 8 to 10 gold chests I earned 2.... Ouch! So the figurative day of reckoning is here and I'm going to have to rent up a bunch of SPS. So I went to the Manage button next to Boost and this is what I got:

So I proceeded to push Rent:

After inputting a rental amount of 20,000 SPS (which is really way less than I need for gold) it would cost me 1,120 DEC for the week, assuming someone would accept the rate of 0.008 DEC per SPS per day which has been the going rate. Ouch! Another outpouring of DEC in addition to the daily rentals. So the price to play where I was playing really more than doubled. Will I keep playing, yes because I enjoy the game. Could I convince a new person who has never played to come in at an extra expense, honestly it would be a hard sale. It worries me because what the game needs is more players (not bots) and the more expensive it gets the less likely they are to even give it a chance. There are too many other play to earn games out there.

I'm not sure if this long term will help or hurt our game, but it makes me more concerned than I ever have been. What are your thoughts? Maybe I'm missing something or maybe even the boat entirely. Have a great weekend everyone!
