Goblin Psychic ~ Splinterlands Share Your Battle Challenge

This week's Share Your Battle Challenge featured card inspired me to do a fun little experiment. It's not for the goal of creating a new meta team but solely for satisfying a curious thought:

What if I battle with three thank healers?

There are currently 15 tank healers in Splinterlands: 14 monsters and one summoner. If I apply my Silver league level cap, I only got 8 healer choices. And among all splinters, only Earth splinter has three.

I could technically stretch it to four healers by adding a self-healing monster. But let's leave that for next time. For now, let's try out a three-tank healer team.

Goblin Psychic: The new Earth Splinter healer

My tank healer trio goal wouldn't be possible if not for Chaos Legion's new Earth healer monster -- Goblin Psychic. The card has a Common rarity and a highish mana cost of six. It has low speed and health but boasts a decent two-point magic attack.

Aside from its primary skill, Tank Heal, it further unlocks three more skills as its level grows: Affliction at level 4, Silence at 7, and Dispel at 10. That's four skills in one card! It makes me wonder if this is still a Common card and not at least Rare 😆 Now, I can't use all four of them in battle since the Silver league limits its level to five. But I will at least get Affliction on top of Tank Heal.

Building up my Healer Team

I own a level 3 Wood Nymph from rewards during the Beta edition period. I only got the other two Earth tank healers at level 1, so I'm renting higher-level versions of those. I made sure to acquire above level 4 Goblin Psychic for that extra Affliction skill. And even if it's a bit pricey, I'll rent out Khmer Princess with Tank Heal unlocked at level 4.

Since all three of these healers are magic, why not go full throttle on magic? I'm renting a level 4 Obsidian as the summoner. Its magic-attack buff will make these healers powerful attackers too.

Then I rounded up more magic allies to maximize Obsidian's attack buff. There's Mushroom Seer with a two-point attack and Silence, and Queen Mycelia for that armor protection. I got tempted to use Flesh Golem as the main tank since it's got a self-heal skill, but I eventually went for Mycelic Slipspawn. I figured its Taunt skill would keep my frail backline monsters safe.

My total rental cost is 36.09 DEC a day. I spent more than I normally would as I mostly use the cards I own. But today's daily rewards more than made up for it! I got one Chaos Legion pack and a Legendary Harklaw card 🥳

The Battle: Will my three tank-healer team win?

BattleRules.jpg

Ehhh?! Silenced Summoners?

Since summoner skills won't matter, I opted to use a cheaper summoner instead. Too bad I won't be getting Obsidian's attack buff for this all-magic team. I'm good with the other ruleset, Taking Sides, since I'm intending to use all Earth splinter monsters anyway.

I was up against an Earth splinter team too. Our composition isn't that far apart. My opponent has one healer and a tank with self-heal, while I got three thank healers. Their overall attack would have been more powerful since all their magic attackers got two points, but the Silence activated on both sides reduced everyone's magic attack to one.

Battle2.jpg

At one point in the first two rounds, my tank's health dropped low due to the opponent's much more powerful attack. But my regeneration game is tip-top, so my tank's health got back to a full bar once all three of my tank healers had their turn.

My opponent's Taunt monster strangely lies at the rearmost. It bore all of my attacks and received no tank healing, so it's only a matter of time before it gets removed from the game.

Battle3.jpg

By round three, my enemy's Taunt monster was gone. My monsters can now attack the opponent's Flesh Golem. This face-off was quite problematic. My silenced monsters' entire attack per round only amounted to six points. My enemy's healing effectively canceled my attacks by regenerating Flesh Golem with an equal six points. Likewise, my side isn't also sustaining any lasting damage because of my healing.

Battle4.jpg

Fortunately, I got one game-changing advantage over my enemy. My Goblin Psychic is at level 4+ and has Affliction. This skill cancels all healing when successfully applied to an enemy monster. It has a 50% probability of triggering, so I had to wait for it to activate for several rounds. And it did before round 6 ended.

With any chance of healing gone, Flesh Golem was destroyed in the next round. My team's weak attacks whittled down the remaining enemy monsters' health one by one. It was a slow process, but I eventually won by round 11. My team won with all monsters still in perfect health to boot.

To end

Is a trio of healers good? Probably no in many cases. The team is a bit imbalanced. Two healing monsters seem sufficient; it's okay to replace the third healer slot with a strong attacker or a utility monster with a special skill. The setup is also very vulnerable to Affliction. Once it latches on, your healers who took up the majority of your lineup will be mostly useless.

My three-healer curiosity has been satisfied. I would not use it again for ranked battles 😅

Is Goblin Psychic a good card to play? Yes. If the battle's mana pool permits, you should include this monster in your Earth team. It has healing and decent magic damage. If you take it up a bit higher, Goblin Psychic gets an incredibly useful Affliction skill. As a bonus, this card is also very cheap to buy or rent.

Is Goblin Psychic better than older edition cards? Mostly yes. Though its mana costs are higher than previous Earth healers, its high attack and skillset justify it. I'd say its battle potential is close to Untamed's Khmer Princess and well above Beta's Wood Nymph (within Silver league context).

The people doing V2K want me to believe it is this lady @battleaxe Investigate what she has been up to for 5 years. Its the next step to stopping this. Make her prove where she has been for 5 years or where she is now. She is involved deeply with @fyrstikken and his group. I cant say she is the one directly doing the v2k. Make her prove it. They have tried to kill me and are still trying to kill me. I bet nobody does anything at all. Make @battleaxe prove it. I bet she wont. They want me to believe the v2k in me is being broadcasted from her location. @battleaxe what is your location? https://ecency.com/fyrstikken/@fairandbalanced/i-am-the-only-motherfucker-on-the-internet-pointing-to-a-direct-source-for-voice-to-skull-electronic-terrorism

wow that is an interesting combo and with the taunt skill definitely helps out in focus fire on the tank and getting it healed by your trio.

I also have the kymer princess but have not leveled it up so that is interesting to know.

yeah, Khmer princess is a great healer card for 2 mana costs. Too bad it's a bit expensive. Level 4 is around $130 to buy, 12~ DEC to rent.
