How to Get More Booster Packs from Chest Rewards

avatar
(Edited)

For the past several months, I would rent cards on the last day of the season to boost my league ranking and loot chest reward count. I usually get incredibly cheap rent deals, so I was caught a bit off guard this recent season-end.

I paid 1,684 DEC to acquire the extra 135,000 CP I needed to get to the Diamond III League. The season prior, I only needed to spend 870 DEC. That's almost half of my most recent rental expenses! There seem to be more active players recently, so rental prices have gone higher.

Despite the higher DEC spending, I'm still quite happy with how the last season ended. I got one Chaos Booster Pack so that more than makes up for the costs. Keep in mind that as we go to higher leagues, so are the chances of getting packs.

Read on if you want to know the better odds for packs. Let's also check if what I actually got matches the expected probabilities.

How Does Booster Pack Drop Rates Differ Per League?

All the data that follow are based on Splintercard's Loot Chest Value Calculator. Based on the information on the handy tool, we can conclude:

a) As we go higher in leagues, the drop rate of Booster Packs increases.
b) As we go higher in leagues, the drop rate of Potions decreases.

The probabilities for Card and DEC rewards remain constant across all leagues. Only Booster Pack and Potion odds are changed. It's like the "slots" for Potions are given to Packs instead. Imagine that one Potion out of the hundred Potions you got could have been a Chaos Legion Pack if you were in a higher league. Not the actual probabilities, just painting the idea.

But perhaps we should now head over to the actual statistics before it gets confusing.

Drop Rates for Lower Leagues

Sadly, Novice and Bronze leagues have zero chances of getting any packs. So, let's do our best to raise our rank to Silver 3 at least. Since only Silver and above have pack rewards potential.

Here's an infographic of how many packs you can potentially get for every 200 loot chests you open if you are in Silver 2 League. Why Silver 2 and not Silver 3, you ask? The lowest Silver-tier has a 1 pack for every 400 chests ratio, and 400 seems too many to illustrate 🤷.

In Silver 2, you may get one Chaos Legion booster pack after opening 200 chests. That's not even guaranteed; you can possibly get none if you are really unlucky. Or, on the flip side, you could get more. The drop rate in the infographic is just a "very likely" scenario. Random is still in play, so anything goes 🤪.

If you reach the Gold 3 league, you could get two Booster Packs for every 200 chests. This can be simplified to 1 out of 100, but I kept it to 200s to make obvious contrast between leagues.

Drop Rates for Higher Leagues

Now, let's take a look at the higher leagues. Here's for Diamond 3, the League rank that I painstakingly try to attain every season 🤟. Not only do I need to rent cards for it, but I also need to have enough wins to reach the required Rating. But it's all worth it, I think, because of the higher pack odds.

And if you are one of the awesomest Splinterlands elites who reached the top-most league ranking, Champion I, here is the pack drop rate in pictogram format.

Does the jump from Silver 2's 1:200 rate to Champion 1's 6:200 doesn't seem much? Let's tweak the POV a bit. You can also look at it as a Silver 2 player getting one pack for every 200 chests, while a Champion 1 player gets one for every 33.

Don't forget to consider that higher leaguers get more chests in Daily Quests and Season-End, so both the rewards potential of each chests increases and the number of loot chests.

Does Reality Reflect the Expected Pack Odds?

Let's compare the actual results I got with the advertised odds of pack rewards. I only have a small sample size because I only recorded my results (read: blogged about it) for a few seasons. But hopefully, the input is good enough to reveal something useful.

My actual pack rewards ...

I opened 120 loot chests from three Season-end rewards (40 each) as a Diamond III leaguer. Among those, I got three Chaos Legion booster packs 😤. These are somewhat accurate numbers since I got them from my older posts.

In the Daily Quests, I got three packs. Lucky me 🥳. The chest count would require some guesswork and estimates, but considering I play daily ... my loot count would have been around 260. That's counting from the day I got my first Chaos pack reward. The daily chests were activated while I was in the Gold III league.

Here are the tabulated data from my pulls, tallied with expected outcome:

My LeaguePack Drop RatioChests OpenedExpected PacksActual Packs
Diamond III (Season End)1:571202.103
Gold III (Daily Quests)1:1002602.603

While my loot count isn't 100% accurate, these are mostly reliable. So it's a good measure of the drop rates' real-life performance. The close comparison affirms it too.

The expected Booster pack drop rate is not far from what I actually got. But I guess, I got lucky because I went a bit above the expected and not below.

To End

If you want to get more Chaos Legion packs from rewards like me, let's be persistent in aiming for the higher leagues! It's easy to solve the Card Power requirement through season-end rentals. But the Rating score is a tough challenge that requires great cards, good play instincts and a lot of luck.

I've longed to go beyond my usual Diamond 3 to get more chests and better pack drop rates, but the 3,100 score rating required for Diamond 2 is an insurmountable wall. Around 3,000 was the highest I got recently. And I got stuck there for about four days until the season ended.

... I hope I'd fare better this season. 🤞

Nice Post. About the DEC spent you need to consider
that DEC price droped considerable this season, for sure you needed more DECs but will really spent more US$?

Thanks for the upvote!

I recall I spent DEC equivalent to around $2.5. I only spent DEC from rental earnings and wins, so I don't know the specific conversion at the time XD

But I often get one pack in season-end so the spending seems worth it :) The Diamond 3 league has 1:57 odds for one pack, so it's a likely hit if I open 40 chests.
