NBA JAM is still a fun game three decades later!

Do you remember this classic 16-bit gem from the early 90s? My friend's dad had the Super Nintendo cartridge and we'd rush home from middle school so we could get on fire and do super slam dunks pretending to be our favorite NBA superstars. It was also a big deal during the arcade days too, but my mom was poor and couldn't see the value of pumping quarters into video games when she could use those same quarters to put into slot machines which could possibly win a big jackpot. I guess it's the same now with us web 3.0 or play2earn gamers looking down on current players wasting money on DLC while we waste money on NFTs. I can't remember which NBA star from that time claimed he liked this game more than real NBA games because he could do things in the game that were impossible in real life. I wanna say it was Shaq, but it was almost thirty years ago so I can't be sure. When I'm bored and without internet, I'll look through my downloaded Spotify or Youtube videos or delete stupid photos, but sometimes I'll scroll through my list of old-school Nintendo ROMs and fire up some nostalgic gameplay. Sometimes playing old games with touchscreen controls on a phone just doesn't work out, but I found that playing OG NBA Jam wasn't a problem at all.

Right now my favorite game is Splinterlands, but it has a serious problem: It's a kick in the balls for beginners. After playing the first quarter of NBA JAM, I figured out the controls and how to work with my AI teammate. I even scored a three-pointer. Splinterlands needs to provide this feeling to new players without letting the bots eat all of the fun and rewards. I have no idea how they'll do that, but I'm sure they think of something clever. I was a bit surprised at how smooth and realistic NBA JAM felt compared to its peers. Imagine how it felt when it was new. I'm sure the arcade looked and felt much better, but you also had to have a bunch of coins. It's clear that they put in a lot of money and talent and hoped that NBA JAM would be the greatest game ever made. What happened to the NBA? Is NBA Top Shot the best crypto card game they can come up with? I'm sorry, but it's one of the lamest things I've ever seen. It's neither fun nor interesting. A modern NBA JAM with online tournaments, NFTs to win, and both old and new players would maybe even make me like basketball again. I lost all interest in basketball when Jordan retired. I wonder how many people quit caring about B-ball once he was gone.

I couldn't remember how to run or do massive slam dunks. I made zero steals and a few points. I relied on passing the ball to my drone teammate whenever he was open. It was a close game even though I sucked, but I managed to sneak out a win with the Chicago Bulls. Thanks for reading about my retro gameplay today. It was a lot of fun playing this old game from my childhood. I took all of these photos from my Snes9xEX+ emulator gameplay on my Samsung phone and used PhotoPea to touch them up.

I played many MS-DOS games in my childhood, but none of them were NBA related. I have not played this game at all so far.

I played Doom and Wolfenstein 3D a lot. I played Doom mostly on a 133 MHz Pentium 1 PC, and I played Wolfenstein 3D mostly on a 66 MHz 486 PC. There was MS-DOS 6.22 and Windows 3.11 on the Pentium 1 PC. There was MS-DOS 6.22 and Windows 95 on the 486 PC. I played many MS-DOS games mostly on the Pentium 1 PC, but I have not played Leisure Suit Larry so far.

I remember thinking how badass I was with a 200 MHz processor back then with the only PC that could play Quake only to forget about it all once I had a Nintendo 64. Things moved fast back then. I'm still using computers from ten years ago now. That is something that would have been a joke back then. Imagine using an Apple II while your friends were playing Super Nintendo. !LOLZ Let's have a !PIZZA and a !BEER

It's really creepy, but after I make a post about old-school games YouTube suggests a video about it. I just saw one about the making of the game. I didn't know that NBA JAM made a billion dollars in quarters in the first year. They didn't want to have the fireball part of the game at first, but it turned out to be the best part.
