My Splinterlands Chaos Legion Plan and Rental Strategy Update

avatar

Chaos Legion is going to be released in a few weeks and I have set up my plan for buying packs. Splinterlands is the application that lead me to HIVE and I believe that this game will succeed. I even spent $1,000 to buy 575 packs when I started. This has rewarded me with both cards and airdrops. So I will also participate in the Chaos Legion sales when the general sale goes live.

Chaos Legion

The @splinterlands account has released a post about the Chaos Legion release and pack sales a few days ago. I won't be targeting the 2nd sale but I will target the general sale. For reference, VOUCHER tokens will be required for each pack you purchase during the 2nd sale (similar to the pre-sale or 1st sale) but bonus packs will not require it. After that is the general sale that will only require VOUCHER tokens for the bonus packs.

So if I were to spend $2,000 for packs during the 2nd sale, I would require 500 VOUCHER tokens as well. However if I wait until the general sale, I will only need to spend 75 VOUCHER tokens. The only bonus you have for participating in the 2nd sale is that you will get the airdrop for the first two cards. However if you were to do so, I think buying into the pre-sale or 1st sale would of been better since you would get a chance at the promo card airdrop.

My plan

Back during the pre-sale, I got VOUCHER tokens and sold them to raise funds for the chaos legion general sale. During this time, HIVE was priced less than $1 each and each one sold on average for like 18 or 19 HIVE each. In total from Splinterlands and tokens such as INDEX, I believe I got around 40 VOUCHER tokens so I think I raised around 720 HIVE. When HIVE reached a price above $3, I decided to move some HIVE over to my wallet to buy $2,000 worth of credits.

credits balance.png

Above you can see my balance of 2,000,000 credits (equal to $2,000) in my account so I only require the VOUCHER tokens to buy in during the general sale. As mentioned in the announcement, I should get VOUCHER tokens during the 2nd sale and I will keep them so I buy in as soon as the general sale is available.

One thing to note is that I still have 107 untamed packs. Originally I was planning on saving it to sell if I needed extra funds to purchase. The HIVE price pump means I did not need to sell these as well and each one of these packs are worth $95.4 right now. I am glad I am able to hold onto these packs for now.

Rental Progress

Back in my previous post about building a passive rental income source in Splinterlands, I started to use up my DEC balance in game to passively work for me. While I may lose out on some SPS airdrop points, I believe it will make up for it over time with the rental income.

Purchases

purchases.png

Here are the list of purchases I made over the 2 weeks since my last update. As you can see, I bought more Djinn Oshannus and gold foil Venari Wavesmith. I know I should diversify a bit more but I decided to grab more of these cards for now. All of these cards were bought on Monster Market so I can get some DEC back from my purchases.

Rental income

rental income.png
My rental income hasn't increased much due to the decrease in rental prices. I updated some of my cards but I haven't changed them recently after the start of the season. It looks like the prices of cards has dropped if you pay attention to the 2 most recent Djinn Oshannus purchases. Overall my potential income is higher but I will have to drop down my prices over the weekend when I have time. As usual I prefer Peak Monsters to manage my rentals because of the interface.

Conclusion

With the rise in HIVE price, I was able to fully fund the credits for my chaos legion purchase just from the pre-sale VOUCHER tokens without touching my untamed packs. As we near the release of chaos legion, the prices of both cards and rentals seems to have dropped so I need to do some adjustment. However it is still doing a great job increasing my income over time.

Yea I wish I waited on buying some of the cards but each card I bought already generated me some income so it offsets the lost. I used DEC to buy cards so I also view the returns in DEC as well.

I was thinking that about the general sale too, but after hearing about the kind of money that people are ready to drop in the game, I realized the packs might not last long on the general sale. I don't want to take the chance of getting zero packs. I am afraid they will sell out fairly quickly.

I don't think it will sell out that quick because VOUCHERS will still be required for the general sale bonus packs. In a way, I plan on using the 2nd sale to collect VOUCHERS and then buy my packs as soon as it opens. I just don't think there are enough VOUCHER tokens in circulation to sell out at the start.

I guess I don't know what you mean by bonus packs. I know the standard CL packs will not require vouchers in the general sale.

Ok so the pre-sale is done and I pretty sure you know how it went. In the case of buying 500 packs, Splinterlands throws in a few bonus packs for bulk purchases. So lets say I want to buy $2,000 worth of packs, we would pay the following:

2nd sale: $2,000 + 500 VOUCHER (bonus packs cost 0 VOUCHER)
General sale: $2,000 + 75 VOUCHER (bonus packs cost 1 VOUCHER)

So VOUCHER won't be used in the normal packs you buy in the general sale but it will be required to claim the bonus packs.

Okay, so to spend more money in the general sale you will need even less vouchers? I think that is even more of a reason that they will potentially sell out fast.

I think people are given the choice to either bulk purchase without VOUCHER for $4 each or buy them for $4 plus some VOUCHER for extra packs. I guess it's still possible for things to go by fast but I think the entire general sale is suppose to generate over $50 million and I don't think it will be gone in a single day.

The fact that they have to post stuff like this:

Any one-time purchases of $100,000 USD or more will receive:

1 Chaos Legion pack for every $4 spent
5 Legendary Potions charges for every $4 spent
Example: A $200,000 purchase will receive 50,000 Chaos Legion packs + 250,000 Legendary Potion charges

Any one-time purchases of $1,000,000 USD or more will receive:

1 Chaos Legion pack for every $4 spent
5 Legendary Potion charges for every $4 spent
5 Alchemy Potion charges for every $4 spent
Example: A $1,000,000 purchase will receive 250,000 Chaos Legion packs + 1,250,000 Legendary Potion charges + 1,250,000 Alchemy Potion charges

Tells me that there is interest from people with that lots of money. If they are looking to make that kind of investment in the game, they likely already have a fairly large stake, so I am guessing VOUCHERS aren't that big of a concern to them. That is just my thinking anyway.

Ah I don't think I have seen that. I am hoping that I am able to get my 500 packs and 75 bonus packs. I think I should be fine since I don't plan on selling my VOUCHER tokens from the 2nd sale. So I will be there to buy it as soon as it available and my credits are already loaded up in my account.

The other good thing is we get double vouchers in the second window...

Your stats are amazing. You are doing really well with Splinterlands. I knew it was a great way to earn but I had no idea it could be so lucrative :-)

Slow and steady wins the race. I only spent $1,000 to buy those 575 untamed packs and I opened quite a few of them. Just the returns on untamed packs sitting in my inventory is enough to pay off all my initial investment. So chaos legion seems like a no brainer to enter.

Damn that is impressive! But that is the reward on being early in a project :)

I am hoping to buy some CL packs in the general sell. I am hoping to be able to purchase some so I can get my CP bumped up a bit :D

Would you recommend opening as much as possible or keep some as "investment" to sell later?

Thank you for sharing your experience on Splinterlands for the past few days.
I haven't played that much but I trade and plan for the coming Chaos Legion cards.

Well I trust the team behind Splinterlands and at least my experience with Untamed packs definitely paid off. I suggest just playing everyday to collect the rewards chest and you will grow up slowly over time.

Back during the pre-sale, I got VOUCHER tokens and sold them to raise funds for the chaos legion general sale.

I bought a Pre-Sale Chaos Legion Pack 11 days ago on (2021.11.23). The official launch starts in 3 days 20 hours 50 minutes. Maybe it was a good idea, maybe not. We will see it soon.

Well at least from my point of view, each pack was on the upwards of over $20. So for the same price, I could get 5 packs in the general sale but miss out on a few airdrops.

Your strategy is great. I believe I will buy alot of cards during general sale. I will work on my rentals to but not now.

Are you planning on buying cards or packs? I am set on packs because it worked out well with untamed for me and it's pretty much funded due to my efforts on the game.

As for rentals, I like to generate some income and make my DEC work for me. I could get a little bit more SPS if I hold onto it but in the long run, I just see rentals as a better strategy. In any case rentals are hard work since you have to update prices every once in a while and it's not 100% passive.

I got some packs during the presale and also planning to buy during the general sale. I will be getting few packs and hoping to open them all and maybe use some in retals

I think I may open some packs but I think I might leave quite a few unopened incase the value of them goes up. I find it is better liquidity-wise because I can sell them for cash if I need it. The untamed packs I bought for like $2 each was on-sale for like $90 when I wrote up the post.
