Splinterlands: Agniavan Salamander is a great tank in Frontier Ranged Only battles

Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Katrelba Gobson.

Featured cards

Agniavan Salamander is a fire splinter that costs 8 mana. This card only has the blast ability, and leveling it increases its health by 1. This isn't a card that I use too much but it depends on the situation.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Going the Distance and Target Practice. This means that only ranged monsters can be used, and all monsters gain the snipe ability. There is also 38 mana available, and I can use any splinter except for earth and death.

Agniavan Salamander82ndBlast
Sturdy Axe Warden83rd
A'lan Musketeer84thDouble Strike
Total Mana:35

My summoner is Barthalamas for the +1 speed. My tank is Ash Archer up front because that target practice will focus the damage on the 2nd monster. My second monster is Agniavan Salamander due to its health and armor. Then I have two more ranged monsters after.

The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while dealing damage and outlasting my opponent. Like I said earlier, the first monster can never attack, and there are no close range monsters in Frontier. So the focus is on that second monster and how well you can take out the backline. I have Agniavan Salamander because of how tanky it is, while the rest of my lineup deals damage.

Round 1

round 1.png
At first glance, I think that I have the advantage in this match due to Agniavan Salamander. My opponent does have a level advantage, but it will take some time for it to kill off my Agniavan Salamander. In that time period, my monsters should be able to wipe out quite a few monsters.

Round 2

round 2.png
A round later, my opponent has lost 2 monsters, but my Agni has survived. So this match is my win because my opponent just doesn't have enough damage to overcome my remaining monsters.

I won the match as I expected.

Conclusion

The battle this time did go exactly as planned. I had Agniavan Salamander work out well as a tank due to the ruleset, and that monster was able to survive my opponent's onslaught. With that, I was able to win the match without any issues despite being at a level disadvantage.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

Alan musketeer is always a delight to watch with its double strike attack. Kudos.

The +1 boost for speed was also very helpful, it did well to see the fight through.

Extra speedy card in a blast game is very thoughtful strategy. I hate blast games especially if I don't have the cards to play the strategy. Great game and great win
