Splinterlands: Argarux Magus's scatter shot won me the match

Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Dire Bear.

Featured cards

Argarux Magus is a water splinter that costs 3 mana. This splinter starts with scattershot. It learns bloodlust at level 4, and leveling it does increase its stats. I use this card from time to time because it has a low mana cost.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

rule set.png

The rulesets this time are Thick Skinned, Little League, and Now You can see me. This means that only monsters with a mana cost of 4 or less can be used, and every monster gains the shield and camouflage ability. There is also 19 mana available, and I can use any splinter except for earth, death, and dragon.

It's quite interesting to see this ruleset because all monsters have that shield ability, and we are also limited to low mana cost monsters. At the same time, the tank is the most important.

My summoner is Bortus for the -1 magic. My tank is Xenith Monk with heal. My backup tank is Daigendark Surveyor with magic reflect and Chaos Agent with Dodge. I have two magic monsters, and one of them has scattershot. My 5th monster is a monster with tank heal.

The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while the rest of my lineup deals damage. In particular, Xenith Monk has heal, and my tank heal will increase that further to 4 health per round. My archon reduces the magic damage, and my backup tank can work against those magic monsters. In the worst-case scenario, I have that scattershot to damage my opponent's backline.

Round 1

round 1.png
At first glance, I think that I have this match won. My opponent can only deal 4 damage to my tank, and that is healed up every turn. However, I also can't do much damage to my opponent's front monsters, so I will have to rely on Argarux Magus to win this match.

Round 3

round 3.png
A few rounds later, my opponent has lost 2 monsters while I have lost none. My opponent has lost their healer too.

I won that match a few rounds later.

Conclusion

The battle this time went exactly as planned. My monsters tanked the hits while my magic monsters dealt damage. My opponent had a healer, but I had scattershot and that let me bypass their tank. It's rough when we are dealing with low mana monsters and that shield ability. I built my lineup to reduce the damage from magic even if my opponent did not use any.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

Argarux Magnus did a great job eliminating one after the other your opponent monsters and I so much admire your tank for its heal ability despite the continuous hit it received all through. And Zenith Monk actually kept the battle going 😂. Kudos 👏

Wow this is the first time I see the ruleset where all the monsters can't be attacked, only the Tank get attacked.
Smart strategy you deployed.

Oh this one is indeed good with the camouflage ruleset, so you can hit the back line

Argarux Magus is such a sleeper hit for these low-mana matches.

The scattershot ability makes the match somehow unpredictable
