Splinterlands: Don't use melee monsters in Briar Patch if possible

Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I saw a battle where my opponent did not pay attention to the ruleset.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Briar Patch. This means all monsters gain the thorns ability. There is also 26 mana available, and I can use any splinter except for death, or dragon.

The thorns make it so that melee monsters are at a huge disadvantage unless they have deflect. So this match will be determined by the non-melee monsters that you use.

Avina of the Wolf5SummonerHeal or +2 speed
Grimbardun Smith61stImmunity
Great Porcupine32ndClose Range
Meriput Magician53rdTank Heal
Anachron Bolter84thHeadwinds
Total Mana:27

My summoner is Avina of the Wolf for the heal on one unit. I have Grimbardun Smith as my tank with immunity. Great Porcupine is my backup tank with close range. Meriput Magician has tank heal and Anachron Bolter has headwinds

The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while dealing damage and outlasting my opponent. Grimbardun is up front due to its high health and low mana cost. When combined with the heal from Avina, and the tank heal, it should survive quite well. Anachron Bolter reduces the ranged damage, so it can limit the damage that I take.

Round 1

round 1.png
At first glance, I think that I have this match won because my opponent has only melee damage, and it will take counter damage if they attack.

Round 4

round 4.png
A few rounds later, I am left with all my monsters alive, but my opponent only has 2 left. Both of these monsters will die from the counter damage, so it is my win.

I won later that round.

Conclusion

The battle did go exactly as planned. I won this match because my opponent did not pay attention to the ruleset. My lineup was also quite solid as the heals would have kept my tank alive quite long. You can never be too safe if you aren't paying attention to the rulesets.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

I think immunity and tank heal played a key role on your selection.Because the rules says all units has thorns ability. But when your attack, the thorn ability has no effect on your units. Unlike when he attacks.Your selection was spot on, kudos 👏.

The Grimbardum is very underrated to say the least. Wow. I think although you may have won without it.

It's a good card based on its mana cost and stats.
