Splinterlands: Improving my epic cards to be more competitive

avatar

Splinterlands has been a challenging game lately and I have been considering what I could do to improve my own win rate. I have decided that I want to move up to Gold rank so I plan on buying some cards and preparing for that. I have gotten the starting level in Riftwatchers so I will focus on increasing the power of my chaos legion deck because there are a lot of cards that are not leveled up yet. It's been quite expensive but I left some room over after I figure what else I need, and I choose to focus on epic cards this time around.

Riftwatchers Purchase

Above are the cards that I purchased: Grund, Wave Brood, Magi Necrosi, Warding Warrior, Magi of Chaos, Venari Spellsmith, Baakjira and Pelacor Arbalest using Monster Market. I get back part of what I paid for the cards and I prefer using this when I am buying directly off the market.

In order to purchase these cards, I decided to just pay HBD for 50,000 credits. The HBD was gained from my author rewards over the past week and I will be continuing to use them to buff up my deck. I didn't use up all my credits but I left some over after I figure out what else I want first. I was glad that HBD was above $1 when I checked last night so I decided to get the credits yesterday.

Grund

The first card that I wanted to upgrade was Grund for an extra melee attack and HP. The double strike has always made this card a very useful option and by upgrading this card, it gains more attack so it will be more destructive on the field. I am considering this as another option later when I upgrade my cards to gold rank because the trample ability looks useful in the future but my summoners need to be upgraded first.

Wave Brood

The second card that I wanted to increase was Wave Brood because I use this card from time to time because of the taunt ability. By leveling up this card, it will increase its attack by 1. The next ability looks interesting as well but that will have to wait for my summoners to be upgraded.

Magi Necrosi

Magi Necrosi.png
The 3rd card is Magi Necrosi. This is a magic snipe monster and I think it will be more useful now that it has an extra magic damage. The next ability doesn't;t look that interesting though so I don't think I will upgrade this one much further.

Warding Warrior

The 4th card is Warding Warrior. This is a low mana card and I think that upgrading will be quite useful due to an extra ranged damage. The shatter ability can be quite useful and it is a good option for my deck. I didn't use it much before when it only had 1 attack.

Magi of Chaos

The 5th card is Magi of Chaos. I upgraded this card for the extra magic damage. One thing that I didn't like about my magic cards was that there weren't enough cards that could do damage against a Bortus (-1 magic summoner) plus void ability setup. By increasing this card, I can still deal damage against my opponent in those magic only fights.

Venari Spellsmith

Venari Spellsmith.png
The sixth is Venari Spellsmith. The dispel and amplify ability makes this card a useful support card. The best thing about it is that it only costs 4 mana and it's also a neutral monster. So I can use this with every type of splinter. By upgrading this to level 4, I was able to gain the amplify ability.

Baakjira

The seventh is Baakjira. I upgraded it to level 2 so it learns strengthen ability. The void and slow ability is very useful because it helps the card survive longer and reduces my opponent's speed. The next ability on the list will also make this card a very powerful tank but I need to work on my summoners first.

Pelacor Arbalest

The last is Pelacor Arbalest and I upgraded it to increase the HP and speed of this card. The double strike ability makes this card very useful as an attacker. I am looking forward to the next ability as well but my summoners are not up to par yet.

Battle

This is a battle that I did use one of my newly upgraded cards (Venari Spellsmith) to amplify the thorns damage from my Cursed Windeku. It worked out quite well in this rule set because my opponent used a lot of melee monsters Venari Spellsmith's dispel also removed the bloodlust my opponent got at one point in the fight.

Conclusion

I bought some cards to help me out in ranked battles and it will also decrease the penalty that I get from fights. I am funding this through my blog earnings.

Do you play Splinterlands and have you bought any cards recently?
