Splinterlands: Improving my Promo cards in my modern deck

Splinterlands has been a challenging game lately and I have been considering what I could do to improve my own win rate. I have decided that I want to move up to Gold rank so I plan on buying some cards and preparing for that. I have gotten the starting level in Riftwatchers and I already leveled up my chaos legion deck quite a bit through my previous purchases. So I plan on upgrading some Promo cards even if they are more expensive. Recently, the anti-bot measures have also made things harder in my ranked battles so I need to improve my deck even further.

Above are the cards that I purchased: Vruz, Arkemis the Bear, Goblin Psychic, and Arachne Thug using Monster Market. I get back part of what I paid for the cards and I prefer using this when I am buying directly off the market.

In order to purchase these cards, I decided not to use my HBD because it is under the peg and I will wait till HBD is at or above the peg to buy more credits. The credits are the leftover credits from my last few purchases. The HBD was gained from my author rewards over the past week and I will be continuing to use them to buff up my deck. I have over 50 HBD waiting for when the HBD price returns to the peg.

Vruz

The first card I wanted to upgrade is Vruz and I bought 37 BCX to increase its level to level 5. This card only costs 2 mana to use and it starts off with the sneak. The biggest benefit of increasing the level is the addition of the martyr ability that can buff the card next to it when it dies. With this, I can create better strategies.

Arkemis the Bear

The 2nd card is Arkemis the Bear and I bought 60 BCX of this card to get a level 5 version of this card. I was thinking about buying fewer cards but the discount was a bit higher so I opted for this. This is a neutral monster with the protect but I don't use it much. However, with the addition of the halving ability, it is way more useful now. In those matches where melee monsters can attack from anywhere, I can now lower down the attack of my opponent's monsters.

Goblin Psychic

The 3rd card is Goblin Psychic and I bought 19 BCX of this card to increase it to level 5. This is a earth monster with the tank heal and I use it quite often. However, increasing this card to level 5 gives it a skill of affliction and this can help out in those matches with healers. I have lost a few times due to this ability and I look forward to having it against my opponents.

Arachne Thug

The 4th card is Arachne Thug and I bought 44 BCX to increase this card to level 4. I was thinking about getting to level 5 for an extra ability but I decided against it due to my limited funds. This is a death melee monster with the reach ability but I didn't think about using it much at level 1. The stats just didn't seem worth it when I had other options. However, at level 4, it has an extra attack, speed, and armor so it is more useful. The additional ability of trample if I level it up further looks appealing too.

Battle

This is a battle that I did use one of my newly upgraded cards (Vruz). It was a very close match but having Vruz as a sneak monster definitely helped my Katrelba Gobson kill off his backline and stack up some bloodlust. In addition, the martyr ability from Vruz also helped increase the speed of Katrelba Gobson and this allowed it to dodge enough attacks to win the match. Overall, I think the money was well spent on Vruz and marytr combined with Katrelba Gobson is a very powerful combination.

Conclusion

I bought some cards to help me out in ranked battles and it will also decrease the penalty that I get from fights. I am funding this through my blog earnings.

Do you play Splinterlands and have you bought any cards recently?
