Splinterlands: Is it worth it to lower down my collection power?

avatar

One of the things that I considered soon after the season rating reset change was whether or not there was a strategy to stay in Silver but also fight in Gold for the last few days plus for the season chests. I looked into this option and I don't think it is something that is worth the effort or to cripple my own deck to make that happen.

What is required?

In order to do this, I need the following point to have this work. In this case, I would need to be at Gold II at the highest for it to work out as it would reset me into Silver I at the start of the next season.

This means that I need to lower my collection power in order to get this to work and when I look at my cards, I just don't think it is possible to stay competitive while doing so. To do so, I need to either sell or rent out my cards at the end of the season. It will cause the following:

  • 1 DEC fee per card for putting up the rental card
  • fewer cards for me to use in battles and thus decreasing my options in fights

With the disadvantages above, I don't think it is worth it because there are cards that can't be rented out either and this contributes towards the 100k collection power that I need to stay under. So as time passes and I collect more cards, the amount of cards that I can use will also drop.

My collection power

image.png
The first thing to consider is my collection power and the first one that I consider is Gladius. The collection power that I have here is 12.5k collection power from this alone. I obviously can't rent these cards out so that already decreases the cap by 12.5k and I don't want to burn any of these cards.

image.png
Next up is the soulbound cards that are out right now. I have 9,355 collection power from this and with the Gladius cards, it's almost 22k collection power that I lost from my cap. With this, it means that there are around 78k available for the rest and this number will only go down as I collect more rewards.

image.png
I decided to check out my summoners and I fight in gold foil brawls so my options don't look that great. If I include all my summoners, I have over 40k collection power but if I were to limit it down to what I need to use, I would require 20k DEC. I wouldn't want to drop down my collection power further than that or I would suffer in terms of brawls and ranked battles.

image.png
This would leave 60k for the rest of my cards and I just don't think it would work out for the cards. If I have to add in the level 5 common, level 4 rare, epic, and legendary cards. In that case, 60k is not enough because I need gold foil cards for brawls. A legendary card is worth 500/1000 collection points. This is the same for a level 4 rare card and the gold foil cards are worth 5 times as much as a normal variant. Managing the collection power when I am getting more gladius and soulbound cards just doesn't seem that appealing to me.

Conclusion

It's not possible for me to do this strategy and considering the number of cards I would have to put up each time, it's a huge time sink. However, if this works out for you, then feel free to use it but it requires calculating the collection power each season for it to work out.

It's a complex strategy, but one thing I know is that it might actually work for some people, but seeing the numbers you've put out, you'll need more stake to actually pull it off.

Yea, it's not that complex but you still need to figure out what you want to keep or not. It is a valid strategy but I just don't think it's for me. I have enough cards but I think I have too much so the management to bring down my collection power is way too troublesome.

Worth to mention that soon the Collection Power will be replaced by stacked SPS, right?

That has been mentioned before and I could revisit the strategy when that happens. However, I wonder when that will happen.

I don't think it is a strategy I would like to implement because every possible way I look at it, my option for strong team selection on the battlefield is decreased and like you mention the gladiators and the soulbould cards are of significant CP.

Yea, it's not easy to implement and people would have to do a calculation towards what cards are the best for the CP that they have remaining. I think it might be possible for a normal foil deck though but the gladiators and soulbound cards eat into that CP range.
