Splinterlands: Levels matter in fights

Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I have leveled up cards.

Leveling Cards

One thing that people need to consider is the level of cards, and there are two factors to leveling: summoners/archons and monsters.

Leveling up summoner/archons increases the maximum card level you can use for monsters. For example, in the above card, Underboss Fabino, leveling the card from level 1 to 2 increases the maximum level for common cards by 2, rare cards by 1 and epic cards by 1.

Leveling a monster will increases it stats or give it new abilities. You can see an example of it above, and at level 5, Black Widow learns the poison ability

Benefits

The benefits are the increased stats and abilities on monsters. However, one less known thing is that the higher-level monsters also attack faster than the lower level variants in the turn order.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time is High Five and Fog of War. This means that you can use up to 5 monsters, and no opportunity, sneak or snipe abilities can be used. There is also 49 mana available, and I can use fire, water, or earth splinter.

This is an interesting match because some monsters are less effective due to Fog of War.

My summoner is Marlai Singariel for its +1 magic. My tank is Port Guardian. After that are my magic monsters with one of them having slow.

The focus of this lineup is to keep my magic monsters alive. Due to Fog of War, I think that Port Guardian is the best tank. After that, the rest of my magic monsters just deal damage. Due to the mana cap and the limit of 5 monsters, I opted for higher health monsters when applicable.

Round 1

round 1.png
At first glance, I think that I have the advantage due to two of my monsters being higher level. My opponent and I both used the same exact lineup otherwise.

Round 4

round 4.png
After a few rounds, my opponent is left with 1 monster while I have 2. The extra attacks from my leveled up monsters did their job of tanking hits.

I won that match later than round

Conclusion

The battle this time went exactly as planned. Both of us used the same exact lineup, but the slight level advantage meant that I attacked earlier than my opponents on some cards. This is due to the turn order.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
