Splinterlands: Mantaroth is strong in Arcane Dampening
Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Grimbardun Smith.
Featured cards

Mantaroth is a neutral splinter that costs 11 mana. It starts with shield and armored strike. Leveling this card gives this card true strike at level 2, repair at level 3, and blast at level 4. This card is very powerful, and I like using this card as both a tank and damage dealer. The armored strike adds more damage while the shield keeps this card alive. I only have this card at level 1 so I can't gain access to the other abilities.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Arcane Dampening. This means that all monsters start off with the void ability. There is also 28 mana available, and I can use any splinter except for earth.
This fight is interesting because of that arcane dampening. Magic monsters are less effective and the mana cap isn't that high so we are limited in terms of the monsters we can use.
| Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Avina of the Wolf | 5 | Summoner | +2 speed or heal |
| Mantaroth | 11 | 1st | Shield and Armored Strike |
| Halfling Refugee | 1 | 2nd | |
| Mad Ogre Anarchist | 6 | 3rd | Opportunity |
| Meriput Magician | 5 | 4th | Tank heal |
| Total Mana: | 28 |
My summoner is Avina of the Wolf for the heal. My tank is Mantaroth with shield. My backup tank is Halfling Refugee. Then I have Mad Ogre Anarchist with opportunity. I have Meriput Magician in my last spot with tank heal.
The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while the rest of my lineup deals damage. I am playing this match to outlast my opponent because Mantaroth is tanky with the reduced physical and magic damage. With the heal from Avina and meriput, it should able to last quite a long time.
Round 1

At first glance, I think that I have the advantage in this match. My opponent is focused on attacking Mantaroth, and he does around the same amount of damage as I heal. So there isn't much chance of me losing this mathc, and it becomes just a matter of how long.
Round 3

My opponent is down to 2 monsters left, but I have all of mine. My opponent can't outdamage my heals.

I won that match a few rounds later.
Conclusion
The battle this time went exactly as planned. I made my lineup in a way that allowed me to outlast my opponent. I am glad that my opponent focused his damage on Mantaroth, and it made this strategy shine quite well. Mantaroth took reduced damage from both magic and physical, so it was hard for my opponent to kill it.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

I enjoyed Mantaroth all through 😂 he was a beast of a monster and your selection was spot on,despite your opponent had more cards.I watched the battle for three times.

That's already a strong card, with void it becomes really scary to face
Mantaroth is already a dominating card at level 1

Great use of the ruleset! Arcane Dampening is the perfect environment for Mantaroth since it mitigates his vulnerability to high-magic bursts.
