Splinterlands: Outlasting my opponent using Lord Thanalor in Global Warming

Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Lord Thanalor.

Featured cards

Lord Thanalor is an earthsplinter that costs 12 mana. This card starts with the Amplify ability, but learns Scavenger at level 2 and Rust at level 3. I only have this monster at level 1, though.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Global Warming. This means that all monsters start off burned. There is also 57 mana available, and I can use fire or earth splinter.

Dread Tafarian93rdHeal

Blackmoor Nymph35thImmunity

Total Mana:57

My summoner is Underboss Fabino for the +2 melee attack. My tank is Mantaroth with shield and armored strike. My backup tank is Giam Root with strengthen, and Dread Tafarian with heal after that. After that are my magic monsters Time Bandit, Blackmoor Nymph, and Lord Thanalor.

The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while dealing damage and outlasting my opponent. Mantaroth has shield, so it should be able to stay alive quite well against physical monsters. The other 2 backup tanks are all monsters with decent health or the heal ability. My magic monsters are more for support, as one of them can cleanse the burn, another has immunity, and the last one has high stats.

Round 1

round 1.png
At first glance, I think that I have the advantage in this match due to my magic monsters. They all have decent health, and my opponent's backline doesn't have a strong way to outlast me. It does hurt that my opponent is almost all magic monsters as Mantaroth won't last very long.

Round 3

round 3.png
A few rounds later, both of us are left with 3 monsters. However, my monsters are still quite healthy while my opponent's are already low. Two of my opponent's monsters should die to the burn at the start of the round, so this is my win.

I won the match as I expected.

Conclusion

The battle this time did go exactly as planned. I setup my lineup to outlast my opponent, and that worked out well. My magic monsters were still quite healthy, but my opponent was wore down due to the burn. It doesn't hurt to use some high health monsters as they can help you in outlasting the opponent in these types of matches. I didn't realize that immunity doesn't protect against burn, but I should note that for the future.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

Global warming is a ruleset one really need to consider health of monsters when lining up for battles after considering their abilities. When Global warming is activated in round 2 and onwards it is like a tsunami. kudos warrior.

The burn was why the opponent actually lost the game. In a different strategy, you'd have lost. However I think this is what splinterlands is all about; sometimes we just do enough to win.

That is what makes Splinterlands so interesting. You have to play according to the rulesets.

The massive health of Lord Thanalor was the key in the victory of that match

I think the selection of the units in the match were good for the global warming ruleset
