Splinterlands: Passive Rental Income Update #13

avatar

The Splinterlands rental market is one of the best ways to put your assets to work and give you passive income. It's been around 2 weeks since my 12th update on my rental strategy.

The rental market has kind of rebounded and it is now generating more income than it did in the past. My strategy has changed to buying cards that I want to upgrade now and renting them out instead to generate more income. Rather than being focused on a CP-related rental strategy, it's more about specific cards being expensive. I had to do some exploration and see what is actually in demand by the players and have chosen some cards based on it.

Rental Progress

My original post, where I announced my strategy, shows my general motivation for choosing this strategy. Like I said earlier, there are good and bad cards out for renting out right now. Generally, I have seen that some of my untamed level 1 cards seem to be the most profitable.

Purchases

card buys.png

As always, I used Monster Market to purchase my cards for the cashback. I used up the DEC I earned from ranked battles, rental income, and rewards chest. The new rewards system is rewarding way more DEC now and the triple-digit DEC drops are not as rare. So it's not a surprise that I am getting quite a bit in DEC. On top of that, my rentals are now generating more income so I believe it will be able to fund my own purchases.

My choice of cards this week is level 1 untamed summoners. The return for these cards are just amazing and the demand for them is also large. Compared to a large amount of chaos legion summoners available, the scarcity of these cards is quite large. It's been the best pick for me and even if the rental prices drop in half, I believe it's still worth it.

Income

My income and all rental price management are done through Peak Monsters because of the tools it provides me. I do plan to update prices closer to the end of the season. It looks like prices are changing daily so I may have to go back and change prices every now and then to make sure they are rented out.

Above is my previous report's income and below is my current income.

Along with the drop in the crypto market came the drop in the price of my own collection. I don't really mind that as much because my rental income has increased a lot and I will still have enough CP to fight in Gold I. Taking the time to go through my cards seems to have been a great decision and I will have to clean up a few more cards I have listed. When I do, I will be earning a decent amount from the collection of cards that I have.

Conclusion

I waited until the start of a new season to decide on a strategy and it looks like I was right to wait. Compared to when the system was released, the rental income has rebounded and the only thing I have to be concerned about is whether or not the prices will last. I will have to re-evaluate my own strategy and which cards to buy every update and I will just take advantage of whatever is hot at this point in time. It's just a bonus that I can always upgrade my summoners afterward if I need to.

What are your plans regarding rentals in Splinterlands?

Great strategy. One I have considered myself but my account is still quite small. 😁
I am currently renting out some of my cards though I'd like to eventually rent them all out.

You will definitely be able to rent out cards soon but I have noticed that the reward cards don't rent out for much. However, something is always better than nothing if you have enough CP and you have duplicate cards.

I don't like doing duplicate cards. I like to merge my cards making them stronger.
It would be great, however, if we could have say multiple dwarven elves at different levels for either rentals or different battle levels or both.
This idea just occured to me so I'm tagging @yabapmatt.

If you don't have enough cards to go to the next level and you don't have enough for the next rank reward, then putting it on the market for rentals seems like the better option.

I don't think having multiple levels would really help. Just keep one for your highest level and the rest to rent out because Splinterlands picks the highest-level cards to use.

I'm waiting for the end of the airdrop to actually build a formidable deck, for now, I'm not renting, just accumulating. You have a great strategy.

Yea. I feel that accumulating now and taking advantage of the opportunities in the market is a better decision for me right now. At the same time, I can always try to pick cards that I don't mind upgrading in the future incase I ever want to do so.

Have stopped playing spl, but with the dip, I have to strategize on how to rent the best card when I start playing again.

With the new reward system it is quicker to build one's deck because the rewards are a lot now but one have to put in lots of time.

That's the main issue for me. I don't have that much time for gaming and spl can be addictive at times.

Lol, the game is very addictive and with emotions as well, I am kind of free now and not working so am utilizing my time for Splinterlands and on Hive in general

I'm doing the same with Hive. Learning and earning, it's too much when you have to add gaming to everything. 24 hours won't be enough.

It's easy to spend all day Battling on spl if you're not careful.

24 hours is basically not enough, I spend the whole day on Hive, my break only come when I have to do some chores or go out, other than that it's I literally live on Hive

I wish I had the time to spend all day on Hive but I can only make do with what I have available. Maybe when I am financially free, I can.

Learning is always good. You can always just play your line-up and do what you need to do while waiting for the results.

I wish I had that much time available. It's been a mess because I have twice the amount of chores this weekend because I had work last weekend.

I know am not going to be free like this for too long, days are coming when I will have limited time so am making the best use of time now on Hive

It's hard to find a balance and I try to rent out what I don't need for my own rank.

The new reward system gives more DEC so you can buy cards but you can't really rent out those reward cards because the rental prices are like crap.

The rental market seems to be either hit or miss right now. It has recovered to an extent but certain cards provide a lot of income while others give crappy rentals.

I notice rental has picked up a bit compared to last season, the cards for example Zaku which I rented last season costs more this season which is good to see.

I am not surprised if the bots are adapting to what gives them the most rewards and I try to get by with what I have available. I guess the only downside is that I may lose more often now.

I have been losing more compared to old reward system. I just have to strengthen my lineups

Yea it's been tough and I have been losing more as well. It does make sense because people focus on one splinter type and leave the rest out of the way.

From 565 to 1806, that's huge.
Good luck.

Yea it's huge because the rental market is skewed heavily in one direction. I wonder if these cards will change over time so I might have to regularly check up on them.

That seems a good way to get extra income. I like it.

It's a great way to get some extra income if you have some spare CP and duplicate cards sitting around.

I think this one remains the way to go. Untamed summoners are useful in both wild and modern. That's why I started buying them up. Untamed is the sleeper no one was looking at.

I went to check my own rentals and I saw the insane APRs. Even if the APR ends up dropping in the future, I still think it's better than most of the current options.

It's interesting to see how Untamed Summoners are in demand. I haven't really gone through the rental markets since the new reward system but I definitely need to be doing that :-)

Yea. I was a bit surprised to do so but it makes sense when you consider that the bots use the starter cards quite often. I guess they are doing it so they don't get gimped in rewards for not owning the card
