Splinterlands: Ranged Monsters are powerful in Witch Hunt

Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a battle where I saw my opponent mess up when choosing his monsters.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Witch Hunt. This means that all ranged monsters deal double damage to magic monsters. There is also 50 mana available, and I can use any splinter except for dragon.

SplinterMana CostPositionReason
Barthalamas6Summoner+1 speed
Frankarsgard71st
Chaos Furybringer62ndReach
Vengeful Monk73rdOpportunity
Sturdy Axe Warden84th
A'lan Musketeer85thDouble Strike
New Beluroc Aegis86thTaunt
Total Mana:50

The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while dealing damage and outlasting my opponent. My archon is Barthalamas for the +1 speed. My tank is Frankarsgard. My backup tank is Chaos Furybringer with reach, followed by Vengeful Monk with opportunity. Then I have my ranged monsters, followed by New Beluroc Aegis with taunt. Aegis will attract the hits and give my tank a better chance of surviving, and the ranged damage dealers will be powerful even if there are no magic monsters. However, if my opponent does have magic monsters, that 7 damage could turn into 14 damage.

Round 1

round 1.png
At first glance, I think that I have the advantage in this match due to my opponent using 4 magic monsters. If my ranged monsters can live long enough, I'll have quite a bit of extra damage. I am faster than my opponent so that does give me a slight edge.

Round 4

round 4.png
A few rounds later, my opponent has 1 monster while I have 2 monsters left. There is no way for my opponent to turn this around because my opponent can't attack anymore

I won later that round.

Conclusion

The battle did go exactly as planned, but it was far closer than I expected. My melee monsters were dropping fast, but those ranged monsters eventually pulled through in terms of damage. I was just 1 monster from losing this match to my opponent.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

Great game, I actually don't like easy wins lol. These type of wins are the type that makes the game practically fun to play. Very close game.

The Witch Hunt ruleset is an interesting one to catch out enemy teams that always use magic monsters on the battle
