Splinterlands: Saltwater Mage is one of the best magic monsters in Frontier

Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Grand Consul Minion.

Featured cards

Saltwater Mage is a water splinter that costs 8 mana. This splinter starts off with the sneak ability, but leveling it does increase its stats. I use this card quite often in Frontier due to its damage, and sometimes, having sneak is great at taking out that backline.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Standard. This means that there are no modifiers in this match. There is also 24 mana available, and I can use any splinter except for life and death.

This ruleset is interesting because it's more about how well you set up your lineup. There are no extra rulesets to make some cards better than others.

SplinterMana CostPositionReason
Marlai Singariel6Summoner+1 Magic
Asel Alagosdil41stDivine Shield
Saltwater Mage82ndSneak
Water-Logged Wizard63rd
Total Mana:24

My summoner is Marlai Singariel for the +1 magic. My tank is Asel Alagosdil with divine shield. After that is Saltwater Mage with sneak and Water-Logged Wizard as another magic damage dealer.

The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while dealing damage and outlasting my opponent. Saltwater Mage is in the 2nd spot because once it moves up, it will focus damage on the front tank. Until then, it will hit the backline for the chance of killing some monsters.

Round 1

round 1.png
At first glance, I think that this match is my win. I have more damage than my opponent, and it will only get worst for my opponent once he loses his tank.

Round 3

round 3.png
A few rounds later, I have lost one monster while my opponent has lost 2. At this point, I can't miss due to my magic monsters and my opponent doesn't have enough damage to kill off my monsters.

I won that match later that round.

Conclusion

The battle this time did go exactly as planned. My magic monsters dealt quite a bit of damage, and there wasn't much my opponent could do. Once my opponent started losing monsters, this match was over. Saltwater Mage dealt massive damage once it moved up front, and it made quick work of my opponent.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

Magic cards will always be winners. You won this game because of the third magic card with some decent health to it.
