Splinterlands Social Media Challenge: Codex Sage is nice in Collateral Damage

Splinterlands is a pretty complicated game with interesting battles, with all the options available. This is a part of the weekly social media challenge for Splinterlands. This week is about a great fight where I won because I used Codex Sage.
Featured cards

Codex Sage is a life splinter that costs 4 mana. This splinter starts with the untrainable ability. Leveling up this card gives it higher stats and the void armor ability at level 3. It's too bad that it can't be trained, but its perfect for the right rulesets. Once it has void armor at level 3, it becomes more useful in Frontier battles.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Armored Up and Collateral Damage. This means all monsters gain +2 armor and all monsters gain the reckless ability (damages adjacent units whenever they attack). There is also 30 mana available, and I can use fire, life, or dragon splinter.
This fight is interesting because of the reckless ability. I can't use my usual lineups, and I want to avoid attacking as much as possible because it will damage my own units.
| Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Incessant Sage | 6 | Summoner | +1 armor |
| Codex Sage | 4 | 1st | Void Armor |
| Twice Yester Knight | 7 | 2nd | |
| New Beluroc Aegis | 8 | 3rd | Taunt |
| Hungry Ulund | 5 | 4th | |
| Total Mana: | 30 |
My summoner is Incessant Sage for its +1 armor. My tank is Codex Sage because of that void armor. Twice Yester Knight is my backup tank. New Beluroc Aegis has taunt, and my last monster is Hungry Ulund as my only ranged damage dealer.
The focus of this lineup is avoid attacking as much as possible. Codex Sage is good for this reason as it will tank any hits it gets from my opponent's tank if it can attack. At the same time, the taunt monster is there to attract as much damage as possible, and my ranged monster will only damage it. Twice Yester Knight is in my second spot because I want a backup monster that couldn't attack but work well as tank if things came down to it.
Round 1

At first glance, I think that I have the advantage, because my opponent has four attacking monsters. That means that my opponent will be taking damage from the reckless ability and dealing 1 or 2 damage to his own team for every hit that lands. It doesn't seem like a good tradeoff when he has a monster with 1 attack there as well. On the other hand, my lineup is well-suited for outlasting my opponent.
Round 5

My opponent is down to just 1 monster left, but I still have 3 available. With my tank and ranged monster at full health, there isn't much my opponent can do to me. I only lost my taunt monster, but it did its job well, as most of my opponent's team died after all those attacks.

After a few more rounds, I won the match as I expected.
Conclusion
The battle this time did not play out as I planned. By trying to avoid attacking, I was able to keep my monsters at a higher health. On the other hand, my opponent recklessly damaged his own team and was left without much when my taunt monster died. Codex Sage was great as its void armor ability worked out well when combined with the +2 armor from the ruleset and +1 armor from my summoner. That when combined with my taunt monster, allowed me to win this match with ease.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

i have this card at level 1, but i not use it frequently there are better cards at level 1
Yea. I think it gets decent at level 3 when it gets void armor.

Well played. I might have tried a blast-heavy backline, but your safer approach worked perfectly under Collateral Damage. Curious to see how this setup performs in higher leagues.
Collateral damage is an interesting setup. Just try not to attack until the end if possible.
