Splinterlands Social Media Challenge: Modern versus Wild Format

Splinterlands is a pretty complicated game and there are some interesting battles with all the options available. This is a part of the weekly social media challenge for Splinterlands. For this week, I talk about my view on the current state of Modern and wild-ranked battles.

What are ranked battles?

Ranked battles are the standard battles that you can do in Splinterlands. This gives out SPS and Glint right now. Each win gives you 20 rating and each loss makes you lose 20 rating. If you have a win streak (more than 2 wins), then you can earn 40 rating from the fight. As you go up the leagues, you earn more SPS and Glint from your ranked battles. Other than that, your staked SPS will matter when it comes to how much SPS you earn from fights as it will give you an SPS boost.

There are currently two ranked battle formats: modern and wild. In modern, only the two latest card sets while Wild allows you to use cards from any set. This means that the current modern format only allows Chaos Legion and Rebellion cards. As for the current rewards, modern also gets an SPS boost for your wins and Wild does not. Recently, they also removed the level cap on the fights so you can use cards to their highest level. With this, the old strategy of where I should fight changed.

My view on Modern versus Wild

As stated earlier, the removal of level capped changed ranked battles quite a bit and my old deck which was built for Silver League (Rare summoners at level 4) no longer works. Modern has been tough and I can't seem to get out of Silver ever since these changes happened. As of last season, I have started doing some Wild fights to see the changes as I was getting tired of Modern fights and the current change to Glint with the boost to SPS earned in modern has made modern even harder.

Currently, I am in Modern League Silver III and I can say that Modern is not fun to play in. As of currently, I am struggling to win fights as most of my opponents have a level advantage and I am getting more losses than wins. I was not expecting this to happen near the end of the season as I was able to get to Silver I last season. The SPS rewards are nice but 34 Glint is barely anything when you consider the current shop.

In addition to my cards in modern, I also have some leveled up Untamed cards to the Silver cap (Rare level 4). So I feel that my deck is stronger slightly in Wild, but I don't think it is that much different. However, I am in Diamond II with this deck. I earn more SPS than I do in modern Silver and the amount of Glint is over 5 times higher.

Given this, my view is that Modern is not worth it unless you have a maxed deck or almost maxed deck. I just think that it will be very hard to get past Silver without that. Modern gives very good SPS but the Glint just doesn't seem to be worth it if you can get high enough. However with my current deck, I can't rank high enough in Modern so Wild is better for me in terms of SPS and Glint.

Conclusion

My view is that Modern is not worth fighting in unless you have a close to near maxed deck. The win rate and how far you can move up is just too low. With the changes to the new Glint system, I also think that Wild is a better place to be if you want to earn that. Modern is hard to move up in as that is where all the big players have gone. So I think Wild is way better as a similar level deck can move up further and that means more Glint. Modern might be better for SPS though but I don't know for sure.
