Splinterlands: Spell Monger is a great tank choice in Collateral Damage
Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Spellmonger.
Featured cards

Spellmonger is a neutral splinter that costs 4 mana. This splinter starts with the thorns and untrainable ability. This card can't be weapon-trained, so it can be limited in some cases. I do use this card from time to time in Frontier because it could be useful in some rulesets/lineups.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Aim True and Collateral damage. This means that all monsters start off with the true strike and reckless ablity. There is also 24 mana available, and I can use every splinter except for Earth and Death.
| Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Barthalamas | 6 | Summoner | +1 speed |
| Spellmonger | 4 | 1st | Thorns |
| Scales of Justice | 5 | 2nd | |
| Frankarsgard | 7 | 3rd | |
| Total Mana: | 22 |
My summoner is Barthalamas for the +1 speed. My tank is Spellmonger with thorns. After that is Scales of Justice as a filler monster, and Frankarsgard as my final monster.
The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while dealing damage and outlasting my opponent. I don't want my monsters to attack until the end, as the collateral damage ruleset hurts your team. Spellmonger has thorns so it works out well as my first tank, and Scales is a filler monster. The dodge isn't useful as there is true strike.
Round 1

At first glance, I think that I have the advantage in this match due to my lineup. My opponent's damage is spread out, and it will take time for him to kill any of my monsters. So the thorns damage will add up over on his tank. Once that tank is dead, my opponent can't attack anymore.
Round 3

A few rounds later, my opponent is down to 1 monster, and I only have 1 as well. However, my monster can attack while my opponent's can't.

I won the match as I expected.
Conclusion
The battle this time did go exactly as planned. I set up my lineup to outlast my opponent. My non-attack monsters, including Spllmonger, did a good job of letting my opponent damage himself, and those thorns made it easier to finish off his tank.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

Its thorns ability most times proves valuable, after depleting the health of opponents units who dares attack her.Thereby creating room for other units to complete the job.Kudos 👏
