Splinterlands: Underboss Fabino is great in Arcane Dampening
Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Underboss Fabino.
Featured cards

Underboss Fabino is an earth archon/summoner that costs 5 mana. This card gives +2 melee damage to 2 monsters, or poison to one monster. Increasing its level only increases the level cap at which you can play cards. I have this card at level 2, so I can't use cards at a high level, but the additional options can be useful depending on your own lineup.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time is Arcane Dampening. This means that all monsters the void ability which reduces magic damage by half. There is also 58 mana available, and I can use any splinter except for fire.
This is an interesting match because it reduces the effectiveness of magic monsters. Melee or ranged monsters seem like the best choice so you can avoid that damage reduction. You also have most splinters available, so there are a bunch of options.
| Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Underboss Fabino | 5 | Summoner | +2 melee or poison |
| Ulundin Overseer | 11 | 1st | Flank |
| Mantaroth | 11 | 2nd | Shield and Armored Strike |
| Mad Ogre Anarchist | 6 | 3rd | Opportunity |
| Vengeful Monk | 7 | 4th | Opportunity |
| Thanalorian Blade | 6 | 5th | Opportunity and Execute |
| Fenmoor Wood Troll | 10 | 6th | Blind and Wingbreak |
| Total Mana: | 56 |
My summoner is Underboss Fabino for its +2 melee damage to 2 monsters. My tank is Ulundin Overseer with Flank. Mantaroth is my backup tank with armored strike and shield. After that are three opportunity monsters with one of them having execute. Finally, I have enmoor Wood Troll in my last spot with blind and wingbreak.
The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while my melee monsters deal damage. I put the extra damage on two of my opportunity monsters to increase their damage, with one of them having execute to kill off monsters more effectively. Mantaroth in the second spot allows it to use armored strike, and that can be some great additional damage.
Round 1

At first glance, I think that I have the advantage in this fight. My opponent has a level 1 summoner, so I already have the level advantage, and my opponent also chose to use magic monsters. With this ruleset, it doesn't make sense to use magic since they will do less damage, but it would be incredibly powerful otherwise. My opportunity monsters will slowly wipe out my opponent's backline.
Round 5

My opponent is down to one magic monster left while I have 4 melee monsters alive, including the two buffed by Underboss Fabino. There isn't any chance of my opponent winning due to that monster having low speed.

I won later that round as I expected.
Conclusion
The battle this time went exactly as planned. My opportunity monsters destroyed my opponent's backline, and Underboss Fabino's +2 melee damage helped me in that goal. I wasn't expecting to fight against Slade and magic monsters. It made Mantaroth quite weak with all the enfeeble, but I just needed it to work as a tank for me. I think my opponent made a major mistake by using magic in this match.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
