Splinterlands Weekly Challenge Battle BATTLE MAGE SECRETS! EARTHQUAKE

Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge to share a rule set using a specific card and on this week's post it is a battle with the Earthquake rule set. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because you get to try different strategies and earn some crypto in the process.

Rule set, Battle and Plan

The ruleset this time is armored up and earthquake. This means that all monsters start with +2 armor and any non-flying monster will take 2 damage per turn. There is also 99 mana available and I am left with the choice of fire, water, earth, or death splinter.

The summoner I choose to use this time is Thaddius Brood. In a match like this, I think that death will give me a decent amount of flying monsters and the -1 magic and health is always useful. I can also play my cards to the highest level.

SplinterMana CostPositionReason
Thaddius Brood4Summoner-1 magic and health
Pelacor Deceiver51stFlying tank
Riftwing42ndBackup tank with scavenger
Gargoya Devil73rdFlying and close range
Soulstorm54thFlying ranged damage dealer
Carrion Shade15thFlying filler
Corpse Fiend06thFiller
Total Mana:26

My plan is just to have a lineup using a few tanky monsters up in front. Both the Pelacor Deceiver and Riftwing will serve well as tanks. The rest of my lineup is more to deal damage and I plan to outlast my opponent if he is not using flying monsters.

Round 1

round 1.png
At first glance of my opponent's lineup, I think I have the stronger lineup due to my damage dealers and my opponent can't attack much outside of that magic monster. The only issue is whether or not my damage dealers can kill my opponent fast enough or not. He does have a sneak monster there that could kill off my cards if I miss too much.

Round 3

round 3.png
I moved to round 3 because nothing really changed before that. It was just me and my opponent trading blows until we took out one monster each. I did do way more damage than my opponent but my opponent's marytr will activate this round. So this is the point in the match where it depends on how often I miss.

Round 6

round 6.png
I moved straight to round 6 because it was just some more trading blows between monsters. I managed to kill off his magic monster and all that is left is a few low health monsters left. At this point, the match is pretty set for me unless I miss 7 rounds in a row.

conclusion.png
Since I did not miss, I managed to finish off my opponent that same turn.

Conclusion

The battle this time around went exactly as I expected. The lineup I went for had a bunch of flying monsters and I was never lacking damage at any point in the battle. I was worried about missing attacks because I was using magic/ranged monsters but that wasn't an issue as I only missed a few attacks. The -1 magic and health worked out well for me as it reduced my opponent's damage and I was able to kill off the monsters before my damage dealers started dying off. I took advantage of the earthquake and this helped out a lot towards me winning the match. My opponent was so focused on trying to outlast and kill me using magic that it backfired on him.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players play in a ruleset.

There are battles we fight, we know we'd win or lose by just looking at the lineup, it actually happens a lot to me sometimes. Great win there for you.

Yea. Sometimes you know just based on the lineup but it always feels great to see a win. There is actually a tool out there that puts out the percentage chance of winning here if you are interested.

Nice win, your lineup was too powerful for your opponent.

Yea. I had the superior lineup but there was still a chance I could lose. I just think the speed difference was probably in my favor.
