Splinterlands Weekly Challenge Battle BATTLE MAGE SECRETS! Earthquake ruleset and speed matters

Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge to share a rule set using a specific card and on this week's post it is a battle with the Counterspell rule set. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because you get to try different strategies and earn some crypto in the process.

Rule set, Battle and Plan

The ruleset this time is Heavy Hitters and Earthquake. All monsters gain the knock out ability and all monsters without the flying ability will take damage every round. There are also 38 mana available and I am left with the choice of fire, earth, death, or dragon splinter.

summoner.png
The summoner I choose to use this time is Quix the Devious. It reduces my enemy's speed and ranged attack by 1.

Void Dragon51stVoid and Flying
Fungus Flinger32ndBlind and Martyr
Regal Peryton53rdFlying

Total Mana:20

My plan is to have Void Dragon up front for the void ability and flying. In my 2nd and 4th spot, I have two martyr monsters to buff up my flying monsters and my third spot is another strong magic flying monster. My last monster is just a filler for the sneak monsters.

Round 1

round 1.png
At first glance, I think that it's an equal match. I have a feeling that my opponent is following a similar strategy to me except they have a summoner with the phase to dodge magic monsters. So if I miss too many attacks, I can lose this match. Other than that, we have a few different changes but the strategy is pretty much the same. I do have a speed advantage though due to my summoner. It all depends on how often my magic monsters hit.

Round 2

round 2.png
Overall, I would say that my opponent was the winner that round. The filler monsters gave him an advantage over the damage on Void Dragon. Other than that, I think we are about even and it hasn't changed too much just yet.

Round 3

round 3.png
After the earthquake takes effect, both me and my opponent will be left with Void Dragon and Regal Peryton. It will depend on whether or not I am able to land enough attacks. If I can, I win otherwise I lose.

conclusion.png
I didn't miss any attacks so I was able to win. My summoner giving me a speed advantage might have contributed towards that because I was able to attack before my opponent.

Conclusion

The battle did go exactly as I expected but I wasn't expecting my opponent to use a similar strategy. I am just glad that my speed advantage worked out in my favor and I didn't miss too many magic attacks. So I was able to become the winner in this close match.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players play in a ruleset.

Pimp is a community here on Hive. I think it's has a pretty loyal community and it's general purpose. I also think that you get some dividends if you are in top X richlist. I am not in that percentage though.

Moving first is always a good advantage to have and it also means the opponent is more likely to miss those physical attacks.

You both had the same tactics, it was a question of speed and ego eventually takes it first. Good win

Yea. I did rely on a bit of luck as I didn't really miss any attacks but it was a good tactic for the ruleset.

It's rare to see but small changes to the lineup do matter.
