Splinterlands Weekly Challenge Battle BATTLE MAGE SECRETS! Keep Your Distance
Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge to share a rule set using a specific card and on this week's post it is a battle with the Keep Your Distance rule set. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because you get to try different strategies and earn some crypto in the process.
Rule set, Battle and Plan
The ruleset this time is Keep Your Distance and Earthquake. This means that no melee monsters can be used and any non-flying monster will take damage every round. There is also 26 mana available and I am left with the choice of water or death splinter.
The summoner I choose to use this time is Thaddius Brood. In a match like this, death is the better option for flying monsters. At the same time, it reduces my enemies' health and magic damage.
Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Thaddius Brood | 4 | Summoner | -1 magic and health |
Will-o-Wisp | 6 | 1st | Weaken and Flying |
Riftwing | 4 | 2nd | Flying, scavenger and backfire |
Gargoya Devil | 7 | 3rd | Close range and flying |
Soulstorm | 5 | 4th | Flying Ranged damage dealer |
Total Mana: | 26 |
My plan is just to have a lineup using a few tanky monsters up in front. All of my cards having flying so I don't take damage from earthquake. Then I have my damage dealers in the back.
Round 1
At the first glance of my opponent's lineup, I think I have the stronger lineup but I didn't expect my opponent to use a summoner with snare. This means that my front-most monster will most likely not survive very long because it will take earthquake damage. I do have the advantage in damage and health so it depends on how often I miss.
Round 2
I took out my opponent's first monster and I haven't missed yet. The damage is starting to hurt on my tanks though.
Round 3
Both me and my opponent traded the front-most monster but now I am left with a pretty big tank on my opponent's end. My Riftwing is already going to take earthquake damage so it's a battle on whether or not I will miss my attacks.
Round 5
We are down to the end of the match. If my cards don't miss, I win the match otherwise I lost due to earthquake damage.
Since my cards did not miss, I won the match and it was a surprise because none of my ranged monsters missed an attack this fight.
Conclusion
The battle this time around went exactly as I expected. My front most flying tanks were able to tank the damage until I finished out my opponent but I was not expecting to fight against snare. It caused quite a bit of damage against my cards and I was just lucky that I did not miss any attacks. Otherwise, I would have lost. That snare combination combined with Runemancer Kye was a pretty deadly combination and I was just lucky.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players play in a ruleset.
Missing an attack can be annoying, I've lost a lot of battles because of them. I think you'd have won comfortably or flawless without the snare, but you still won nonetheless.
Yea. It's all about luck but I rarely see a snare summoner being sued. So I wasn't expecting it and I was able to land all my hits.

That was very close, it looked like your opponent was going to get away with a win until the last moment of the fight.
Yea. I thought I would lose the match but I got lucky and landed all my hits
