Splinterlands Weekly Challenge Battle BATTLE MAGE SECRETS! What Doesn't Kill You
Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge to share a rule set using a specific card and on this week's post it is a battle with the What Doesn't Kill You rule set. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because you get to try different strategies and earn some crypto in the process.
Rule set, Battle and Plan
The ruleset this time is Even Stevens, What Doesn't Kill You and Taking Sides. This means that only even mana monsters can be used, all monsters gain the enrage ability, and no neutral monsters can be used. There is also 45 mana available and I am left with the choice of only fire splinter.
The summoner I choose to use this time is Conqueror Jacek. In a match like this, I think that +2 speed, scattershot and piercing are good abilities to have. With this, I don't have to worry about protect or repair as much and I will attack faster.
Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
---|---|---|---|
Conqueror Jacek | 6 | Summoner | +2 speed, scattershot and pierce |
Iidri Fyre | 6 | 1st | Taunt and Redemption |
Ferexian Hero | 8 | 2nd | Weapons Training and Reach |
Ferox Defender | 8 | 3rd | Protect |
Goblin Firemage | 4 | 4th | Dispel |
Goblin Fireballer | 2 | 5th | Filler damage dealer |
Tinderlock | 10 | 6th | Close Range and Last Stand |
Total Mana: | 44 |
My plan is just to have a lineup using a taunt monster up front with redemption. This will force my opponent to focus on my tank. I have a weapons training monster with reach after that to give my tank some melee attack. Then I have protect because it can be quite useful to allow my monsters to live longer. Following that is some damage dealers and I left one monster with dispel because I feel that it could be useful against my opponent's buffs.
Round 1
At first glance, I think I am in trouble because my opponent is also using Jacek but at a higher level and he also has a higher speed than me. The taunt isn't as useful due to that scattershot so it depends on how long I can survive.
Round 3
I skipped forward to round 3 because not much happened besides trading blows. My opponent's Ferox is annoying because of the repair but at least I do have pierce from my summoner. The fight can still go either way right now and at least my opponent didn't focus down my monsters.
Round 4
I lost one monster and my opponent lost 2. With how things are going, I do think that I have the advantage because once my taunt monster dies, two cards will be gone from my opponent. With that, I will win so long as I don't miss too much
My opponent failed to kill off any of my main attackers and the only monster to die was my taunt monster with redemption. This killed off two monsters and I was able to take out the rest of my opponent's monsters before things got worst.
Conclusion
The battle did not go exactly as I expected but it worked out as I intended. I was expecting the taunt monster to attract the attention of all my opponent's damage but that scattershot from Jacek didn't help. I was lucky enough to have my opponent's damage spread out and I was able to take out my opponent slowly. That redemption definitely came in useful because it was able to kill off two of my opponent's card. Jacek was a great choice but I guess it didn't matter as much because my opponent had a higher level Jacek. My opponent had a similar lineup and I won due to luck.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players play in a ruleset.
