Splinterlands Weekly Challenge Battle! CRUEL SETHROPOD

(Edited)

Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge to share a battle using a specific card and on this week's post it is the Cruel Sethropod card. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because you get to try different strategies and earn some crypto in the process.

Featured Monster: Cruel Sethropod

Cruel Sethropod is a water splinter card that costs 3 mana to use. It has zero abilities and it is also a melee monster so the stats will go up as you level it up. It has a decent amount of armor so it can tank a few hits for you.

I don't use this card often because it doesn't have any abilities. Unless the rule sets give it a bonus, I don't really plan to use it but I do see it as a viable monster to place in the last spot to tank the sneak attacks (mostly physical). I only have a level 1 version of this card and the stats itself doesn't look that great. It has low attack and the only use for it is as a filler card to tank hits.

Rule set, Battle and Plan

rule set.png

The ruleset this time is odd one out. This means that I can only use monster cards with odd valued mana costs and it limits my options in half. There is also 42 mana available and I can use anything except for fire and death.

The summoner I choose to use this time is Lir Deepswimmer. Whenever I get a chance, I really like to use Lir because it has return fire, +2 armor, and blink. This means that I will resist melee and ranged attacks to an extent. This summoner is used quite often for me when I have a water splinter daily quest as well.

Lir Deepswimmer7Summoner+2 armor, return fire, and blind
Torhilo the Frozen91stVoid Magic
Flying Squid72ndReach Monster and backup tank
Venari Wavesmith53rd+2 armor
Merdaali Guardian34thTank Heal
Axemaster75thDouble attack damage dealer

Total Mana:41

My plan is above and I will have Torhilo as my main tank. The reason why I put him there is the void magic ability because it will help me resist magic damage. My summoner will help me negate the rest to an extent. Following that is a usual reach monster. My support monsters will be a tank healer and +2 extra armor. Axemaster is my favorite damage dealer in water because of his double attack and he is placed towards the end. In my final spot is the Cruel Sethropod to tank any damage from sneak.

Round 1

round 1.png

At the first glance at my opponent's lineup, I think I am fighting a bot and I don't think I can lose this match. When looking at the mana cost of my opponent's team, I realize that he did not make the most of his mana and there was a lot of mana left over on the table. Torhilo will counter most of the magic damage and my +2 armor from Lir and Venari Wavesmith will tank any damage his snipe monster may put out.

Round 2

round 2.png

One monster down and my opponent is left with only 1 attacking monster. Torhilo ended up with affliction so he can't be healed but my lineup is still in full strength.

Round 3

round 3.png

Another monster down and there isn't much left on my opponent's lineup. So I don't think there is any chance of me losing.

With just the attack from Axemaster, I was able to take out the rest of my opponent's monsters.

Conclusion

The battle this time around went exactly as I expected. Torhilo works well with Lir to tank out the magic damage and it allows me to resist physical, magic, and ranged to an extent. It's too bad that my Cruel Sethropod was of no use because my opponent did not use any sneak monsters. Besides that, my lineup of damage and support worked incredibly well and I think this lineup is fairly strong.

My opponent's lineup did not make the most of his mana and there was a lot of room for him to improve. Of course, I still think I would have won given the current lineup that I had. I think this person was most likely a bot but I don't understand why they did not use the starter cards available because there were definitely cards they could have played.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

Yea I have no idea why my opponent decided to play that lineup. It's kind of crazy to see how he didn't even use up all of his mana when he had more than enough cards available.

Lol its really crazy, lineups like that are rare! and his got a good summoner at level 3 capable of giving you a strong competition.

I read a few posts and I think the bots might be trying to figure out which cards they can use for their setups. So the tweaks might have caused these horrible setups.

Okay that might be the explanation behind the lineup
