Splinterlands Weekly Challenge Battle! Dragons

avatar

Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge to share a battle using a specific card and on this week's post it is the Retaliate card. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because you get to try different strategies and earn some crypto in the process. As this is a splinter type post, I decided to just go straight into the battle and explain my reasoning for my line up.

Rule set, Battle and Plan

rule set.png

The rule set this time is Stampede and Even Stevens. The first rule set is useless to me since I have zero cards with Stampede. I know they definitely shine in these rule set and most stampede monsters tend to have high attack as well. The second rule set is even stevens so only even mana cost cards can be used. I have 32 mana available and I have fire, water, death and dragon available for my splinter choice.

With only 32 mana available, I don't want to use any high cost summoner since I prefer to have most stability in my deck this time around. I also know that I have a decent arsenal of physical monsters with even mana cost so I choose that splinter type. For my secondary choice with dragon, I choose water since the feasting seaweed has 3 attack with a 4 mana cost. This leads me to use Daria Dragonscale for my summoner for the +1 physical attack buff.

My plan this time around will be to have a decent tank in front with my damage dealers following afterwards. A Manticore card makes sense for my second spot since it has reach and is also a physical card. Since I am using Daria, I know I will be using Feasting Seaweed and Parasitic Growth as two of my extra damage dealers in this fight. I don't have many other good choices after this so I settle with some fillers who will damage and also take hits.

Round 1

My choice of cards this time was probably horrible because my opponent's summoner removes Daria's buff. Then he also has a Octopider in the back decreasing my attack even further by 1. While it isn't impossible to win, I think I have a 50% chance of winning and I am glad I choose to Azmare Harpoonish in this battle. If I can land that snare, I should be able to beat that Dark Ha'on in a few turns.

Round 2

round 2.png

The first round is over and I didn't do nearly as much damage as I would like. My frontline tank can take a few more hits and I should be able to clear out Dark Ha'on on the next turn. At least I did manage to cast snare on Dark Ha'on so my attacks should land more often.

Round 3

round 3.png

Both of our tanks are down but I also managed to get rid of my opponent's chicken. It's looks like this will still be a close fight though because that Venari Bonesmith can cause poison and also drain health.

Round 4

round 4.png

Both me and my opponent lost our front line monsters last round. However I am starting to see more hope in winning this match. All I need to do is kill off that Venari Bonesmith and his Octopider will be left in the front line. This would mean he can't attack if I can deal damage fast enough.

Round 5

round 5.png

I may of lost Pixie but it did tank most of my opponent's attacks last round. So long as my Azmare Harpoonist lands it's attack on the Venari Bonesmith, I win. Otherwise I will lose this match. So I am just hoping I don't miss.

Since my Azmare Harpoonish landed a hit, I won this match. I fast forwarded it because having an Octopider in the front-line doing nothing would be quite boring.

Conclusion

The battle did not go as I expected and I am quite glad I didn't have the cards to fully pack my line up with physical monsters. I would have to say the filler card Azmare Harpoonist was the MVP of the match as it did the most damage. My opponent's lineup directly surpressed my physical line up so I was worried about whether or not I could win the match. So I would say it's a good idea to mix and match some different attack types just incase. I am also glad that I did not have any sneak monsters because it would of been attacking that Octopider and it's high health.

I think my opponent did a great job with his line up. The Dark Ha'on was a great tank and I was on edge the entire time wondering how I would get past it. The only think I would change is to move his chicken from the 3rd spot to the 2nd spot. While it would not of changed the results of this match, I tend to prefer having a physical or no attack monster take the hit over something that can deal damage.

Overall I like the Dragon Splinters since you can mix them up with other types like water as well. So instead of 2 types (base and neutral), I get 3 types (dragon, base and neutral). It adds a lot of variety to the line ups as well.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would of done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

Nice analysis, I also think you got lucky with your opponent selecting low speed cards as you did, had they had higher speed cards you would have missed all the time!

Yea I am fighting in the Silver Leagues right now so there isn't really that many cards with high speed. At least I think 3 speed is fairly good for cards around that league.
