Splinterlands Weekly Challenge Battle! RADIATED BRUTE

avatar

Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge to share a battle using a specific card and on this week's post it is the Radiated Brute card. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because you get to try different strategies and earn some crypto in the process.

Featured Monster: Radiated Brute

Radiated Brute is a fire splinter card that costs 5 mana. It starts with the reach ability and it learns the enrage ability at level 6. Its stats are decent as a reach or secondary tank but it's fairly slow.

I don't use this card much because of Fineas Rage but it is a good alternative when there is less mana available. However, I do think it may be a better option when there is a reverse speed rule set. I got a gold version of this card from opening chaos legion packs so the version that I use is level 3. So my card has 1 extra speed and health compared to the one given by the starter deck.

Rule set, Battle and Plan

rule set.png

The ruleset this time is close range and holy protection. This means that every monster can negate 1 attack and ranged monsters can attack from the front spot. I have 60 mana and all splinter types are available. So this means that I will likely be able to put as many high mana cost monsters as I wish. It's unlikely that I will use up all my mana.

summoner.png

The summoner I choose to use this time is Yodin Yaku. It's my main summoner even if I can't use my cards to the highest level because of it's amazing abilities. The +1 ranged attack, +1 health and blast ability is just too good to pass up. While it doesn't win all the time, this summoner is my favorite and my win rate is higher than usual when I do use it. Combined with the close range ruleset, I believe ranged monsters are quite deadly.

My plan is just to have a lineup using Grum Fireblade as my tank because it causes magic to hit his armor first and his bloodlust ability can be quite powerful. After that would be my reach and secondary tank the Radiated Brute. The rest of my line up will be filled with range monsters to make use of Yodin's +1 ranged ability and blast. I think my last spot should be for War Chaang because of the retaliate and ranged attack.

Round 1

At the first glance of my opponent's lineup, I think I should be fine because my opponent can only have 3 monsters attack at any given point in time. The demoralize cuts down the damage on my Grum and Radiated Brute but I think Yodin's +1 range and blast ability make up for it.

Round 2

round 2.png

Not much changed but as we were trading blows, I was able to damage two at once. My opponent only damaged my Grum during the first round.

Round 3

round 3.png

I lost Grum but my opponent lost two monsters. My opponent's magic monsters are fairly fast so my Radiated Brute will be a backup tank as I try to finish off the rest of my opponent's monsters.

Round 4

All of my opponent's melee monsters are down and I don't have any magic monsters. So I don't think there is any chance of losing with cornealius as one of my backup ranged monsters (it has self-heal).

After a few rounds of trading blows, I was able to finish off my opponent. I did lose the Radiated Brute but it lasted long enough to give my ranged attackers a chance to finish off the rest of the monsters.

Conclusion

The battle this time around went exactly as I expected. It was a bit unfortunate that Grum couldn't get any bloodlust off. My Radiated Brute was a secondary tank and it did a great job of giving my monsters an extra round of attack. As I thought, my ranged monsters did great work of cleaning up the monsters with the blast ability. War Chaang only activated the retaliate once but it did help to deal some extra damage.

As expected Yodin Zaku was an amazing choice for this high mana fight. The blast ability allowed me to quickly deal more damage to my opponent and it allowed me to take less damage. For my opponent, I felt that his lineup had too many monsters who could not attack from their current position. Out of his 6 monsters, only 3 could attack and I do think he was trying to fill up as much mana as possible. However, I think that was a bad choice because I think a good offensive is always better.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
