Splinterlands Weekly Challenge Battle! SHADOW SNITCH

avatar

Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge to share a battle using a specific card and on this week's post it is the Shadow Snitch card. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because you get to try different strategies and earn some crypto in the process.

Featured Monster: Shadow Snitch

Shadow Snitch is a death splinter card. It cost 4 mana and has the reach ability from the start. At level 6, it learns the affliction ability and at level 10, it learns dodge. While it may not be the best card at the lower leagues, I think it's health makes it a worthwhile secondary tank at the lower leagues. At higher levels, I think the affliction ability at higher levels is great because there are more cards that have an ability to heal so having this option is also quite good.

I don't use this card very often because I tend to have better options. Maybe if I had my card at level 4 and it had 2 attack, I would use it more often. However death is my hated splinter type and I tend to only use it when I have dragon cards to mix along with it. So I don't really know what to make of this card. The good thing is that I got a level 3 gold version of this card in a previous chaos legion pack opening so it does make it more usable.

Rule set, Battle and Plan

rule set.png

The rule set this time is fog of war and healed out. So this means that cards lose the snipe and sneak ability and cards can't be healed. There is also 20 mana available and every splinter besides water can be used. Overall, it is a low mana match so I would like to mix in a bunch of lower mana cards to deal damage.

summoner.png

The summoner I choose to use this time is Daria Dragonscale with the death splinter set. I like Daria because it buffs up melee monsters with +1 attack and the summoner is high enough level to use most of cards to highest level.

My plan would place a bunch of melee monsters into my deck. However the fog of war rule set messes things up a bit because I can't add in sneak cards. So I will opt for my usual Giant Scorpion with the thorns ability followed with a reach monster. I am left with opportunity monsters left with my line up so I add in the two melee cards I have available. With the remaining 1 mana, I just add in the usual chicken and creeping ooze.

Round 1

At first glance, I don't know if I will win because my opponent has two strong legendary monsters in front. That Flame monkey is also going to be annoying as it has the repair ability. However the lucky thing is that I have two opportunity monsters so I should be able to make quick work of it. The Lord A is going to be annoying so I hope to deal enough damage so my opportunity monsters focus on his front-line tank.

Round 2

round 2.png

I was able to get rid of the flame monkey and I am also doing some damage to his front-line tank. It does have the bloodlust ability so it might be dangerous if it kills off too many of my monsters. Overall, I still have like 11 damage available on my end so I think I have higher odds of winning.

Round 3

round 3.png

As much as I would like my monsters to focus on his front-line tank, I don't think it will happen. The good thing is that Lord A will die this round so I can deal more damage to it soon enough. The bloodlust ability added a shield to my opponent so it will require some extra hits to finish my opponent off. However I do think I have this match won because it will take my opponent two rounds to finish off my shadow snitch.

Round 4

round 4.png

With Lord A out of the way, all my opponent has left is 1 card and I don't think I will lose because my cards are faster than his. All I need is two out of the three cards to hit.

As I expected, I was able to finish off my opponent without any issues. After all, my opponent's card didn't have much speed to begin with so his chances at dodging were fairly low.

Conclusion

The battle this time around went as I expected. It was in my favor as my opponent decided to opt for a melee setup so the thorns ability was able to deal some extra damage and allow me to kill his cards faster. If anything, the fog of war may have stopped me from using sneak monsters but it also guaranteed that my opportunity monsters would live longer. So I feel that my set up was quite good and Daria was able to increase my damage per round significantly.

With my opponent giving his card the pierce ability, I think his line up is great. The repair ability from the flame monkey works well due to the fog of war rule set and bloodlust on his tank makes it quite tanky. I have lost a few fights already due to the blood lust ability so I know that it can be quite deadly. If I had to say what my opponent was missing then it would be the furious chicken. Just having that card would soak up an attack and give his cards more time to survive. At the same time, I don't know if having Lord A was a great idea for him. I felt that having some more damage instead would help more.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would of done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

A nice write-up :)

I don't play Life or Death cards and so don't know much about the Shadow Snitch.

Good to see you are building a nice deck of SL cards, I think they will be worth collecting/holding for the future.
