Splinterlands: Zyvax Vuul is a great monster in Going the Distance
Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because of Mantaroth.
Featured cards

Zyvax Vuul is a dragon splinter that costs 8 mana. It starts with flying and recharge. Leveling this card gives this card close range at level 2 and deathblow at level 4. This is a card that I can only use in Brawls, but I do think it's a fairly good tank. However, I don't use it too often because the recharge makes it attack every other round.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Going the Distance and Fire & Regret. This means that only ranged monsters can be used and all monsters gain the return fire ability. There is also 16 mana available, and I can use fire, water, earth, or dragon splinter.
This ruleset is interesting because we can only used ranged monsters, and the ranged monsters will take counter damage.
| Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Drake of Arnak | 4 | Summoner | +1 Armor |
| Fungus Flinger | 3 | 1st | Martyr |
| Zyvax Vuul | 8 | 2nd | Flying, Close Range, and Recharge |
| Naga Assassin | 2 | 3rd | |
| Total Mana: | 17 |
My summoner is Drake of Arnak for the +1 armor. My tank is Fungus Flinger with martyr. My backup tank is Zyvax Vuul, and my last monster is Naga Assassin.
The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while my opponent kills himself. The marytr will buffed up Zyvax Vuul, and the recharge makes it so that Zyvax Vuul will attack less often. It does have increased damage so the counter damage can still hurt, but it has flying to dodge attacks too.
Round 1

At first glance, I think that this match can go either way. My opponent has melee damage, so it could be dangerous. It does have close range, so his tank should still take counter damage.
Round 4

A few rounds later, my opponent is left down to 1 monster while I have 2. At this point, I can win if my opponent lands their ranged attack or if they miss both attacks on my monster.

I won that match later that round.
Conclusion
The battle this time went exactly as planned. Zyvax Vuul was a great card to have in this match. It has quite a bit of health, and my opponent just slowly damaged himself through the return fire. At the same time, I think I made the right choice for my summoner as that +1 armor negated one attack on every monster.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

this is a perfect example of how rulesets completely flip normal card value in Splinterlands.

You took a risk and it paid off, I legit thought you were actually going to lose the game.
