My Journey Begins - An Introduction

Hello, Hive community!

Yes, that is my firstborn son you see up there which is the happiest thing that happened to my life.

I am Jay. And I'm from the Philippines!
I'm a web developer by day, and I'm asleep at night. =) LOL!

Here is a short story about my life.

MY YOUTH

I was born and raised in Manila. Then we moved to the rural region during my high school years. Studied accountancy but did not finish; switched to nursing and graduated.

Soon I found myself working as a baker /(slash) store attendant in a small bakeshop. Time passed and I found myself working as a CSR at a local call center. Then I got my Registered Nurse license as I passed our Nursing Board exam after a few months in a review center.

I became a contractual nurse in a small local government hospital. And this was the chapter of my life where I experienced and learned the true meaning of service, and met different kinds of people from all walks of life. Most importantly, this was my eye-opener on how short our life is.

And by the way, I love to be stationed at the ER on night shifts. Oh, the energy of young people, I can still remember, and the adrenaline when I'm riding an ambulance. Now you can hardly make me work past midnight.

ADULTHOOD

My career as a Registered Nurse ended when I didn't get regularized after five long years and after a change of local officials happened.

To make it short, I ended up opening an internet cafe using my savings.
Why I started an internet cafe? I haven't mentioned that I love video games. And I love everything that you can do with a computer. It was a long story why I didn't just take a computer course when I was younger.

The business was good in the first year, and then there was a steady decline. There were new competitions around and it was the rise of mobile gaming.

But instead of brooding myself to death, I took this chapter to learn something new, something I like and can be good at - coding and programming.

I took a short course about game development and animation. But I ended up becoming a web developer instead. I liked it. Then I leveled up my skills by studying WordPress development. I learned it for free with just Google and YouTube! Can you imagine that? The evolving technology now allows us to learn for free!

My internet cafe closed down after two years of operation. In exchange, I landed a job as a WordPress developer. Now I'm more than six years in this industry happily working at the comfort of my home.

MOVING TO THE PROVINCE

The best thing in my life was the arrival of my firstborn. My wife and I decided to move to a more peaceful and quiet place - a great home to raise a child.

So we moved to our province in Batangas, and I immediately loved the smell of fresh air, being surrounded by nature, and having a more laid-back lifestyle. And oh, I love that I can do lots of things here that I can't do in the city.

I have taken an interest in homesteading. And I like that I can grow crops and plants here. I'm raising a small number of turkeys and swine. And I love to see the number of my turkeys increasing every quarter, and my plants growing taller each month.

I also love how we are near the beautiful beaches and mountains. And when I drive or just stroll around, it relaxes me to see the greeneries and the grain fields. Asides from the usual water buffaloes, cows, and goats; there are even horses here in our vicinity for carrying different kinds of stuff like lumber, bananas, coconuts, gravel, sand, et cetera.

I think I'm more into nature and homesteading now than computer stuff.

HOW I GOT HERE?

Long story short, my goals shifted drastically when my boy was born. I'm now always looking for opportunities to establish a long-term business and passive income since the main goal now is to have more time for my family.

Then the play-to-earn hype wave began in the Philippines.

Axie Infinity.

I was a bit late when I entered the game. It was a failed financial investment for me, but it was my eye-opener to the world of cryptocurrency and blockchain gaming.

Then a few more failed crypto investments got me until I met Splinterlands. Oh boy, I was a fan of strategy card games, and this game gave me a lot of fun and earnings.

When I felt that I'm spending more time on P2E games rather than on my family, and the earnings I'm acquiring are gradually getting smaller, I decided to retire from active games.

Thanks to Splinterlands, I'm now aware of the Hive blockchain games. I love that you don't need to spend gas fees just to play Hive games. So I recently found and started playing this Rising Star free P2E game. I'm playing it since it's just an idle game and I won't be literally spending time with it.

FUTURE PLANS WITH HIVE

So here I am and I just joined some communities according to my interests. I want to learn and share ideas and experiences about my newfound passion in my new chapter of life.
