Week 370 | My Splinterlands Art Contest Entry | Fallen Specter
How is everybody? π October was a busy month for me as I tried to draw all the prompts for Zingtober! π It was fun! I am happy to see my fellow artists here in Hive participating.
My entry for this week is Fallen Specter. π The word "specter" for me is uncommon since English is not my first language. I only knew of the word because of the video games that I play, hehe. My understanding of the word specter is equivalent to spirit- specifically, those spirits with grudges or dangerous intentions. I guess I learn a lot from playing video games. π

"They donβt always go away. A Dark Eternal soul is already corrupted beyond the salvation of the living, so to all outside the land of Mortis, they are lost. Even when a Dark Eternal is defeated or destroyed in combat, there is often left a remnant, a flicker of the soul that once was. Sometimes these Specters, clinging to their anger, retain certain physical powers in this realm. The most powerful Fallen Specters are chilling sights to behold when they are called to tournament battle at Mount Mox"

Art Process

- sketch and line art
A simple pose for Fallen Specter and then a celestial background of light and clouds. When I think of ghosts or spirits, I think of them as an element. Maybe because of the influence from video games and movies. They can be in the shape of a human being or animals.
I used a light blue colored pen for the sketch and for the line art, I used a solid pen with a soft tip.

- base color and gradient
I wonder if specters have elemental powers like ice or fire? If that is the case, this can be an ice elemental, hehe. I remember Skyrim, for that matter. I started with a faint light blue for the base. I wanted to copy the exact color from the original art. I then clipped a layer for the gradient darker blue. I used a multiply mode so that it will blend well with the base. I used a soft airbrush to apply it.

I then started with the background with the same color palette. I chose a brighter shade of blue so that the subject would be separated from the background. I used a glow pen for the background. I used a special pen for the white curved lines. I thought I would put a gradient of darker blue on top and on the bottom.
For the final stage, I just used a glow brush for the glowing blobs of circles. I used a blur brush for more unfocused glare. Fallen Specter was easy to draw since it has a shape that can be easily twisted. But then I struggled with the background. I thought of using an old chapel as the background. I thought it would be a perfect background for a "spirit" like Fallen Specter, but then I felt like this creature is more like a celestial one. But Happy how it turned out!
