Splinterlands : Tips and Tricks for the End of the Season - Gold and Silver

Well here we are, the end of the Splinterlands Season. After 14 days and countless battles once again the excitement starts to brew as Hive and Twitch come alive with gamers trying to squeeze out higher positions and more chests in their league. The game has changed considerably since I first started playing in March 2021, and strategies I employed even a few months ago no longer hold the same relevance within the current game 'meta'.

Here are a few tips and strategies I employ near the end of the season, which I hope will help you in your journey to those EOS Chests and the highest league you can achieve!

Rent Early

As we draw to the end of the 15 Day Season many card rental prices will go up. A lot of Splinterlanders will rent Gold cards in order to push up their Card Power and the league they can play in, so Gold Legendary and Epic card prices tend to soar during the last few days of the season.

The worst times to rent tend to be the first 3 and last 3 days of any season, so for a better return on investment (ROI) it's best to rent at least 4-5 days BEFORE the end of the season. Mid season usually has the best card prices.

⬆️ This season has been 'great for rentals' and just 2 days before EOS I was able to pick up a Gold Legendary Harklaw rental for just 20 $DEC per day. He will give me 12500 Card Power (CP) and help me maintain my Gold rating. NOTE - As we have now rolled over to the last day of the season I have checked and the cheapest Gold Legendary rental is now 45 $DEC, with prices increasing as the hours go by!

Rent levelled Summoners

This may seem like a no-brainer but some players still don't realise just how important leveled summoners are to the game. As your summoners (rented or owned) are levelled up, this will in turn allow you to use Monster Cards that have also been levelled up. Even in Silver league you will find that level 2 Summoners are necessary so that your Monster cards are not nerfed (debuffed) too much in battles!

⬆️ Above you will see some of the cards I have rented for my current Gold 3 League rating. Level 3 or higher Summoners are a must for Gold players, although you can 'get by' with level 2 Summoners but the going will be tough!

⬆️ Malric Inferno is a card that rents for pretty cheaply and I often pick up a level 4 Malric for the season. You can see from the picture above that : at level 4 he allows the usage of Lvl 5 Common Cards, Lvl 4 Rare, Lvl 3 Epic and Lvl 2 Legendary cards. If I only used a level 1 Malric in a battle all of my FIRE Monster cards would be nerfed and only function as Lvl 1 cards...not good enough for Gold League!

Concentrate on your best Splinters

We all have our favourite Splinters (card types) so I usually recommend to new players that they MOSTLY concentrate on 3 Splinters, especially if they are renting. While you should try to cover your bases across all Splinters, it can get very expensive if you're trying to buy or rent Summoners and Legendary cards across Fire, Water, Earth, Death, Life, Dragon and Neutral.

⬆️ Here are the Epic and Legendary cards in my lineup; some owned, some rented. Fire, Water and Earth are probably my 3 most played Splinters although I do tend to rent 'across the board' when I can afford it.

Level up your own cards

If you're an active player you should be checking your cards every week or two and levelling up those cards that are able to be levelled. You'd be surprised how often you'll find Common and Rare cards ready for the next level, simply from Daily Quests and Season rewards.

Also look at the Splinters you most play and decide if it's worth buying cards for the sole purpose of levelling them up, or possibly purchasing a card that is already levelled up, which is often cheaper than doing it yourself!

⬆️ Uraeus is one of my favourite neutral cards. Above you can see that a Level 4 version is cheaper to buy straight off the market ($0.17 per BCX) than to purchase individually ($0.18 per BCX) and level it up yourself.

In conclusion

I personally love the fact that Splinterlands seasons are 15 days long and not run on a monthly basis as it gives us a chance to earn season rewards twice a month. While this post may be a little late for this particular season I hope it assists you in your quest for Splinterlands glory.
