Here's the ruleset

Lineup:

Summoner: General Sloan

General Sloan buffs my ranged attacks, also General Sloan likes to read. With Back to Basics I expect to see most people use a summoner with a magic buff. Those thinking on the next level try to counter the magic buff with a summoner like Bortus, Thaddius or Owster. I tried going to the next level beyond that so my opponent would be less likely to counter my summoner and I would still be able to buff most of my team.

Tank: Gargoya Scrapper

At level 1 Gargoya Scrapper doesn't lose any abilities to the Back to Basics ruleset. I've placed it in front where it may be able to attack before it gets picked off. It's primarily here to soak up the first hit.

1st position: Silvershield Sheriff

Placing the Sheriff here is a double edged sword. This is a huge attack to lose when Silvershield Sheriff is moved to the front and doesn't have Close Range. I placed the Sheriff up here because it also has a high life total which should be able to soak up some hits for everyone else in the back row.

2nd position: Gem Meteor

I do expect my opponent to get through Silvershield Sheriff. The Gem Meteor is placed ahead of some monsters with higher attacks and lower life totals in hopes of saving their attacks longer. Gem Meteor is fast enough that it may be able to dodge an attack or 2 (except magic).

3rd position: Portal Spinner

Another ranged attack buffed by General Sloan.

4th position: Prismologist

Another ranged attack buffed by General Sloan. Higher attack and smaller life total than the one in front of it.

Final position: Herbalist

Ranged attack buffed by General Sloan. With Back to Basics my opponent can't sneak attack and 2 damage for 2 mana is solid.

It could be really interesting to see a summoner that gives the sneak ability to the whole team or even just all of your melee attackers.

Did my strategy work?

Not at all. I was reaching outside my comfort zone to use the Gargoya Scrapper and I was beaten pretty badly.

Do I like Venari Knifer?

Yes. The Scrapper is a solid addition in the right setting for just 1 mana. I've seen some nice success pairing Gargoya Scrapper with Lorna Shine in front of a bunch of sneak attackers during low mana battles.

What will I try differently next time?

I'll save the Gargoya Scrapper for those low mana battles. I would have done much better in this ruleset with a simple level 1 strategy including a magic buff like Obsidian.

Thanks for reading and thanks for all the upvotes, reblogs, comments and follows. I'll see you in the game.
