Leveling Up Your Death Monsters for Level 3

image.png

After feeling like you have some command over bronze league it may be worthwhile to dip your toes in silver league.

The max levels that you can play for silver league are level 5 commons, level 4 rares, level 3 epics and level 2 legendaries. I have a few cards maxed out for silver league, but certainly not all that I want to and when you're getting started in silver league there are other important steps along the way. Most of the summoners that we play with are rare. When we get them up to level 3 we can start getting added benefits in silver league without really being maxed out for silver league. It's an important stepping stone.

At level 3 you can play level 4 commons, level 3 rares, level 2 epics and level 2 legendary monsters. It's interesting that you can't go any higher with epic monsters than you did in bronze, so you won't see any epic monsters on this list, but at level 3 you can start playing level 2 legendary monsters and some of those are incredible.

I think these are some of the most impactful death monsters to start leveling up if you happen to have some level 3 rare summoners to pair them with. These upgrades will also work if you have level 2 legendary summoners.

Ever Hungry Skull

At level 4 the Ever Hungry Skull picks up a 3rd melee damage. This is a great card for the equalizer ruleset.

Shadow Snitch

At level 4 Shadow Snitch picks up a 2nd melee damage.

Soul Strangler

At level 3 Soul Strangler picks up a 3rd ranged attack damage. That's pretty impressive for 3 mana. This is also another great option for equalizer rulesets.

Cursed Windeku

At level 3 Cursed Windeku picks up a third melee damage. This monster is huge for just 6 mana and that's why it's the default tank for the death splinter.

Queen of Crows

At level 3 Queen of Crows picks up the headwinds ability. Combine this with Contessa L'Ament or Quix the devious for the going the distance ruleset and practically all of your opponents monsters will be dealing just 1 damage.

Most legendary monsters pick up another ability at level 2, some of those abilities are more impactful than others. The death splinter is no exception to that and does include several nice upgrades at level 2. I chose to leave them out of this list as there were so many other great options in the common and rare cards.

When picking out new cards to level up, it's important to consider whether you'll be playing in modern or wild format. All of the cards that I discussed in today's post are legal in modern. If you start to level these cards up remember that they will revert to a lower level if you play them with a rare summoner at level 1 or 2, or even a level 1 legendary summoner.

I would love to hear what some of your favorite cards are to level up. I'll keep pointing out the ones I can. Another great place to find them is the cards that you get beat by on the battlefield.
