I Actually Made Some Money - A Brief Guide for Newbies

NOTE: This is a cross-posr from my Publish0X page.
Hello, fellow newbies!! Today I wanted to share how I made my first little bit of "money" in Splinterlands. It was quite the journey. Or at least it was for me.

First, however, some shameless shilling: If you'd like to get in on the fun and earning potential that is Splinterlands, please click here to get started on your journey. Many thanks!

Now back to our regularly scheduled post.

Flipping Cards

I'll run down, briefly, how I started this journey. So I used some BTC to purchase in-game credits. From there I went to https://www.splintercards.com/index.html and clicked on Tools--> Low Prices Gap. This handy feature allows you to see what cards might be trading below market value. In my case, it was the Exploding Rats card that caught my eye.
Screen Shot 20211006 at 12.06.03 PM.pngI saw, via Splintercards, that a Level One card was going for $0.45. Market value was, at the time $0.50. So I grabbed one using the in-game credits that I purchased with my BTC. How did I do this? There are two ways. One way is to use the Splinterlands in-game marketplace - which I find to be a little, shall we say, lacking on market information. The site that I, and many others, prefer to use is https://peakmonsters.com/ which is rich with information and market data. It also links directly to your Splinterlands game account via the Hive keychain. I did a search on Peakmonsters and found my little kamikaze rats and bought one.

Buyer's Remorse

I played with the Exploding Rats card a few times and found that it was not to my liking. (I still don't understand why a card with 4 speed never attacked - no mater where I put it. Let me know in the comments if I am thinking wrong about this). Should I probably have rented it first to find that out? Maybe. But one of my ultimate goals with this game is card flipping so I wanted to buy it to be able to sell it for (hopefully) a profit.

And that's what happened.

It took two days for the market value of the card to rise (checked on Peakmonsters frequently) but rise it did. I eventually put it up for sale at a time when most of those Level One cards were going for $0.80 or so. Since I had bought it at $0.45, I listed it at $0.70. Long story short, it sold and I made a little DEC profit.

The Long Game

Since I'm the farthest thing from a crypto whale, the amount of crypto I can spend on credits is limited. That's why my little DEC profit is so important, however. I am firmly convinced that, by finding low cards and selling them for a little profit, you can slowly increase the quality and quantity of cards thereby increasing your monetary gains.

Now I just gotta figure out how to exchange in-game profits to "real" money. If I ever need to, that is. The process seems daunting. Especially since Binance.com and Binance.us are a no-go for me based on where I live.

Congrats on flipping the card. A lot of small profits will soon equal a big bag!

This card is melee with no special abilities except blast. It can't attack from the back line without sneak, reach or opportunity. The only way this card attacks is if you put it out front (Risky due to 1 health) or if you are in a special ruleset match.

  • Equal Opportunity - All monsters will attack from any position
  • Melee Mayhem - Melee attack from anywhere.
  • Super Sneak - All monsters have the Sneak ability
